  1. Hi I started a waxworm culture a little while ago, I just checked on it and I have alot of babies now :bounce: :bounce: which is great but I'm not sure what to do now. I did the culture in a large glass jar with corregated paper for the moths to lay on. There are still moths in there so do I try take the moths and paper out and start a new culture or is it better to leave it for awhile until all the moths have died? :-? Any advice would be appreciated.
  2. yeah I thought about them but wasn't sure whether Mike would be keen to, no halm in trying though . If anyone else has some spare let me know :P
  3. Does anyone know where I could get some adult locusts for breeding? I had a good set up going babies and all, then my dad looked after them while I was on holiday and somehow he wiped nearly all of them out. I'm left with 10 but they don't look great and aren't mating. I want to start up a fresh lot but don't know where to get the adults from. :-?
  4. After looking at some of the setups on the other forum and not knowing anything about beardies, but don't they get bored with only a few rocks to climb up on? Are they that easy to please?
  5. The enclosure is being made out of old rimu boards which we found under our house . It's for two 6 month old water dragons, rather than beardies. The size is 1200H 1600W and 800D so we can get it out the door  Thanks for that :bounce: I've been looking for old windows on TM but getting the plastic tracks maybe a better way of doing it.
  6. yeah it would be great to see some pics. We are also in the process of building a bigger one for our dragons and are just trying to figure out the best way to do the doors, at the front. Does anyone have suggestions on what type (which way to open, glass or perspex etc) would be best.
  7. We've moved onto a farm, where the last owner never used rat/mouse poison he had cats for that job, and by the amount of roaches we have here probably not alot of house sprays either. He was an older "back in the day" bloke who owned the farm, and by the state of the whole farm not alot has been done here for a good few years. On the upside lots and lots of bugs and creapy crawlies here that's for sure.
  8. Thanks for that everyone :bounce: I was hoping there was an easy way but by the sounds I'll need to get the pros in.
  9. I did vaguely think about selling them but I am not a big fan of the old cockroach. At the moment it's mainly a higene issue, they are on the bench and in the food cupboards, you are joined by them when having a bath too  There must be alot of them as we see quite a few around the house during the day I hate to think how many there really are.
  10. Hi all, we have just moved house and there are loads of cockroaches everywhere, does anyone know if there is a type of spray or "bomb" to kill cockroaches that is safe for water dragons and locusts??
  11. Sorry basking temp for 2 water dragons about 4-5 months old
  12. Hi does anyone know what the ground basking temp should be?
  13. Tukino's not too bad as well, cheaper to stay there than Whakapapa or Turoa just abit back in the day with equipment but still not a bad place to go and the guys running it are pretty cool too.
  14. I tell ya it is so worth it, some of those smaller mountains are the go too not just the more commercial ones. I can't remember the name off hand but one of the mountains more on the west side, costs I think maybe 700 bucks which includes food, accomodation and all the boarding you can do!!!! Don't quote me on that price as it may have gone up but a good deal I thought.
  15. Cadrona definitely rocks, we went down for about 3 months just snowboarding it was so worth it. Way better than the North Island mountains, Cadrona was so uncrowded compared to Ruapehu!!!!
  16. Thanks for your comments, I did vagely wonder if it had something to do with brightness, it is still bright in there tank but no where near what it had been. I'll up that and see what happens. Can you tell me where I can find the mercury vapour type heat, I don't think I've heard of those before.
  17. Just curious to know what other people use to heat their enclosures? I'm trying to find the best but cheapest way to heat my terrarium. I've found that incandescents (during the day) are good but are much more expensive to run, so I changed to a ceramic bulb the temp is 29 degrees but my dragons are no where near as active as when the incandescent was going. Any ideas why this would be?
  18. What's the cost of the power useage with a locust set up? I'm keen to give it a try but since I only have 2 baby water dragons I wondered if it was still cheaper to buy rather than do my own?
  19. Hi I have just bought 2 baby Water Dragons, their enclosure has been done but I am confused about where the uvb light should be :-? I have read up on different websites, books and pet shops and the information is quite conflicting. Some have said it can be up to 45 cm from the WD basking area and shouldn't be too close while others have the uvb light inside the enclosure and alot nearer the basking log. :bounce: Any help would be appreciated.
