  1. One thing that comes to mind is a Costia infestation. "The skin clouds up in some areas, then comes off, leaving bloody patches". Thats the description given by one site. http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/disease/costia.htm Thats the Costia page from FishDoc.co.uk. It mentions lethargy as one of the symptoms Does that sound anything like your problem?
  2. This guy, I think http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... es_id=1626
  3. LOL never has a truer word been said  My big fatty is a total character, perpetually hungry and quite willing to be your best friend as long as it involves him getting fed
  4. He's looking so good, Mystic. I'm starting to wish he was back home again
  5. Its actually the males that are more brightly coloured and have longer fin extensions.
  6. Shiuh, when you go to Mega (if you haven't already been) go see Garry in the Power Tools section, tell him his missus says he's got to give you a good deal as a fellow fish nut 8)

LOL, the drop-eye debate  I've read a lot about drop-eye on various sites and there are almost as many theories as there are Aro keepers out there. Its interesting though, that drop-eye is most common in Silvers and Asians, the two species that are farm-bred (Silvers) and heavily in-bred (Asians). It very, very rarely shows up in Blacks and Jardini's, both species that are mostly still wild-caught or only very occasionally tank-bred. Of course, environmental factors are going to have an impact, but I've seen posts by ppl who've had Silvers and Blacks in the same tank, same food, same water....... the Silver will get drop-eye but the Black will not :-? It's interesting what you say about yours not being fed feeders and being safe with other fish, David. I got my Silver only a few months back, he was with Mystic for several months before that. To my knowledge, he's never been fed feeder fish before. Just the other day, Tye dropped off some of her accidental hybrids for my Clown Knife to dispose of, and the Aro went absolutely crazy, tearing around the tank trying to catch them. Even though he'd never been fed feeders before, he knew exactly what those little fish were. Instinct is truely quite amazing 8)

I wouldn't recommend it Oscars are pretty boisterous fish and could stress an Aro, especially a young one, quite badly. Mine does OK with Severums, but I wouldn't recommend anything more agressive than that

    Feeder Fish?

LOL now everyone wants them!! Tsarmina, Fishy-t.... it sounds like your need is probably greater than mine. My Clown will eat them, but he'll also eat his prepared foods so its not necessary for me to have them.

If you want some, Tsarmina, I can take less 8)

    Feeder Fish?

Tye, I have a 19" Clown Knife that will get rid of them for you. I'm also in the Hutt, Waterloo/Waiwhetu to be more specific. Send me a PM if you'd like me to take them.
  12. It was nearly 2 years ago that that fish was at Wet Pets. It was estimated them to be around 12 to 16". If yours came in the same shipment and its only grown a few inches in 2 years............ I don't not believe you, I'm just sceptical until proof is offered. I'd be more than happy to post a pic in this thread for you, if you'd like. Send me a PM if you'd like an email address to send a pic to.
  13. I'd suggest you offer proof you actually have a Tig before you try selling him. Post us a pic.
  14. I get the feeling you already know what your catfish is......... So what is this? A test to see if anyone else here knows anything about big catfish?
  15. No, none of the big cats are on the "Allowable Imports" list Its possible, though, that a juvie got mixed up in a shipment of Pictus and wasn't picked up on. A lot of Pimelodid's can look pretty similar when they're very small. Whatever it is, if its got stripes, its not a Pictus
  16. Another option.... http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=3752

  18. Does this look familiar? http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=7568
  19. Sory to haul this thread up again, but my partner and I missed the first meeting and were wondering if there was another one scheduled any time soon?
  20. Both of the two that I've had have always been suckers for frozen bloodworm...... that and earthworms. My current one also eats pieces of shrimp, flake and crumble.

I can thoroughly recommend a Black Ghost Knife, Caryl 8) We currently have our second and absolutely love him to death, just like our first. No problems at all with plants, although picking other tankmates can be a little tricky as these guys won't stand up for themselves at all  They'll eat smaller fish but get bullied by more boisterous fish like some of the larger cichlids. I used to handfeed my first, but haven't quite gotten the trust of the new one, but I'm working on it!! If your'e interested in something a little unusual, you could always look at a Spiny Eel. I have a Tiretrack and he's such a cool fish. Very intelligent and friendly.... in fact its sometimes a little hard to keep him out of your hand when you're trying to work in the tank Tiretracks can get pretty large, but they're very sedintary fish and would be fine in a 6 x 2 x 2. I'm pretty sure thats what Wetpetz in Palmie have their big boy in.
  22. It looks like it is what they called it, Mystus vittatus http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/sp ... cies_id=20
  23. Jeez, mie could take a few lessons from yours too, Elmo  He eats like a pig and is supremely convinced he hasn't been fed in a month

    oscar sulking

If you're feeding him pellets you could try soaking them in some garlic, thats known to stimulate appetite
  25. Fair enough 8) I don't know of any breeders either, but if I ever get my pair to spawn again, I'll let you know.
