  1. A puke, they are so cute ! We have raised a few of these on corn. Rob from bird rescue recommended this. Ph number for the bird recovery centre is 4381457 - they are so helpful. We just got some frozen corn kernels and covered them with boiling water . Fed out when cool. For the really young ones I used to squeeze out the corn from the "skin" at 1st till they got used to it. Keep warm and dry - under a light or by a heater. We let ours go around the house when they were old enough and have had no problems with them fitting back into the wild. Whenever Hubby stops at the letterbox a puke comes racing across the paddock to see him ( he carries maize in his truck for it:)) . Looks so funny :sml2:
  2. I went to Kelly Tarltons with a school trip once and we slept in the tunnel. It was hard to go to sleep coz you couldn't stop watching the fish glide past.
  3. My husband has had grommets inserted in his 40's. He had glue ear as a child and went into hospital to have grommets put in but they took out his tonsils and adenoids instead  He has alway been a bit deaf but it got worse and he got bad breath. Kept going to the Dr for yonks- no result so I made him go to an ear nose and throat specialist who took one look and said "glue ear". I guess GPs don't expect adults to have it. He had the grommets which helped the infection but not the deafness. When he had the grommets put in the Dr suspected he may have a cholesteotoma - a cyst type growth caused by repeated glue ear. Turned out he did so he had surgery to remove , then another surgery to try to repair the small bones in the ear. He is still pretty deaf and still gets ear infections maybe once or twice a year but they clear up quickly with ear drops. I guess some adults are prone . Good luck
  4. Yeah I vaguely remember some cows walking along. One says "where are we going?" Other says "milking silly ( or Hubby sez dumbell) milking with Murray" and theres a guy saying "Morning girls" Not sure if that is right or we are mixing up our ads Can't remember what the ad was for- Maybe milk Now that's going to bug me until I can remember it properly- Lets hope someone here knows or Ill be thinking of it for days
  5. Good idea Livingart- i'm sure if got some kicking around
  6. Yeah thats the sort of thing I was thinking of- but how to keep it on without strangling the pig- a project for the hols
  7. Too many other animals around for shooting and poisoning. We have a large dog but I can't get her to stay on the pigs back LOL Sugar ( the pig) is gonna have babies and they will be the bacon. I've checked her for lice- none. I'll just have to try slathering her ears with different concoctions and start designing a hat for pigs
  8. Our pet pig - who lives out in a paddock has had some sores on her ears for a few weeks now. I've been putting zinc and/or antibiotic cream on. I couldn't figure why they weren't healing- it's like shes been scratching them. I just saw why- the beep beep mynahs are pecking at them! I had a similar problem with a horse years ago with a bad wound just above his hoof . I solved that problem - he wore a travel boot for weeks. Apart from shooting all the mynahs , locking her up inside somewhere till its healed or making her some sort of hat does anyone know of something I could put on her that would repell the mynahs?
  9. I was rather gob-smacked when my primary school aged daughters got off the school bus yesterday asking if they could please have one of the kittens a lady on the bus was giving away Please Mummy they are so cute and tiny and they are free! Apparently a couple of kids took kittens home . One boy returned his this morning though. I couldn't believe that someone thought that it was ok to do this... :an!gry
  10. I have a few Aphyosemion Bitaeniatum fry that will be ready in a couple of months
  11. I have lost 8 diamond tetra in a similar fashion. Didn't notice the red vent and just one at a time a couple of months apart. They must be prone to this. Shame coz I really like them . I will try Jens treatment next time.
  12. I have a few planted tanks . Most have a powerglo plus either 6500 or 10000k light on for 10hrs. The only ferts are jbl balls added when set up - over a yr ago. Till a couple of months ago all the plants were growing like mad then the stem plants started to get brittle and stopped growing some have disappeared completely now. We did change from bore water to rain water a few months ago so I wonder if some minerals are lacking. Any ideas?
  13. Looking good! Love that piece of wood!!!
  14. Instead of bringing me home flowers Hubby surprises me with fish instead :happy2:
  15. Does anyone know where I can get o rings for Jebo canisters . HFF said they could try to order some in but I wondered if there was somewhere I could get them directly from. Cheers
  16. I can get another piece of glass for around $20 so I think I'll replace. Here's hoping I don't smash the whole thing when I do it Thanks for the advice
  17. Hubby picked me up another tank but had a little mishap and cracked the back. Its a 90cmx 38 x38 and its got a 8cm crack midway up the back panel on one side. Would it be ok with a patch on the inside? Or better to replace the panel? Thanks
  18. I have a pr of young striatum if you want them- pm or email me
  19. A visitor commented the other day on how easy fish are to keep. Made me wonder how much time I spend mucking about with my tanks. I have 9 low tech planted tanks and 3 others. This morning I thought I'd spend an hour or two on them. I did water changes , cleaned some glass and trimmed some plants- nothing too major. I was surprised to find 4 1/2 hrs had gone by. I'd hate to think how many hours a week I spend doing fishy stuff  So how much time do you spend on your fish?
  20. You could try a fish trap along these lines http://www.aquariumlife.net/projects/di ... ols/32.asp
  21. I soaked some for a couple of weeks in the bath. Water went really brown but didn't stain the bath. Needed a good clean though
  22. Hey that is really good- How do you find the time to do all these neat things?
  23. Yep the first batch was smaller. I doubled the amount of water with the other batches as there were more but this could be factor . I might try hatching them in a tank with a sponge filter next time
