  1. I have just added three syno. multi. cats to my 500ish lt african tank. I already have three larger standard brislenosed cats in there. The BN 's are flaring there spines and gills at the smaller synos and chasing them out of hiding. Will they all setle down or have I made a boo-boo ?, Because to net out anything I will have to move a ton of rock work!
  2. I had a frog tank I made, we raised Adults from tadpoles and had loads of White Clouds breeding, the frogs seemed to ignore the fish. I thought goldfish will eat frogs eegs and attack tadpoles also male frogs will try to ride larger goldfish! You know how males are!LOL Depth of water was only about 125mm with a small internal canister lying on its side. Worked well.
  3. Aleas 2400 l/hr Has anyone used this brand, and what are they like/ COMPARED TO fluval and EHIEM , I am needing more capacity for my african setup. Was thinking a second 404/5 atleast, but these are cheap on TM
  4. I have a SunSun type tank setup , bought of TM about 3yrs ago, Ihave had one blown light tube, and the thin plastic light cover became brittle and I broke it. Apart from that it has been fine. About 145lt cost around $400 new, still looks good. If you like it, it's your money check it out and enjoy your fish!
  5. I am using on my trickle filter setup "green stuff" this is polyester material used instead of pink batts in building. its way too thick so just peel off layers. one 500mm square offcut will last for years! My african cichlids make heaps of waste and this stuff does not curl up like the white poly wool when it gets dirty. However if you add up how much your fish cost , why risk harming or even killing them just to save a few dollars on filter materials? Look after the water,, the fish will look after themselves.

    My tank

I am setting up bigger tank, I like the pumice too, if the left over bits you have are not taken by anyone else I will come over and buy them from you after soccer on Sunday. If not , where is the supplier you used?
  7. Dont think its bloat. May be stress as the ballooning belly is gone. Individual is keeping to itself now, maybe sub-dominant male being a bit soft.
  8. I picked up some Ice Blue Zebras yesterday, came home tonight and found one bobbing around on his side. Swollen up and struggling to swim right way up. Is this a swim bladder problem ? , and could it pass on to other fish? How do I treat?
  9. How long do you want the light reflector? I have a section of stainless that is polished 1200 mm long( part of a chimney flue kit) I have used these and they work well. Yours if you want to pick it up. I'm in Massey.
  10. How would LED strip lighting go for unplanted african tank (700mm deep)
  11. after boiling , I soak unknown rocks in diluted white vinegar to see if there is iron mineral deposits in the rock. If veins or patches of colour keep foaming or bubbling the rock goes back to the wife"s garden. A lot of rocks will give of bubbles when they first get soaked so boiling anything except live stuff makes sense to me.
  12. I am moving my africans into a much larger tank and need to set up lighting. What is the best light to use. No plant to worry about I just want to show the fishes colour, with out washing them out. 700 high tank so alot of water to penetrate.I was thinking of using a small string of blue LED christmas lights for a moonlight effect, any thoughts? Thanks Ant
