  1. Quite right indeed, the power board ones will always switch off when the power is cut. You really should look at a hard wired one on your switchboard to be on the safe side.
  2. I simply get frozen peas, warm them in my hands and remove the skin by squeezing them. Then drop them in the tank. Plecks and Clowns love them.
  3. RCD's don't trip with a power cut. They only sence the imbalance on the load side of the circuit(s).
  4. IMHO you should not have anything that re-sets itself when tripped, its down right bloody dangerous. The reason for something tripping in the first place is that there is a fault on the circuit. You do not want to be the one causing the fault only to discover it re-sets itself causing you to be the fault all over again, do you?
  5. Im sorry but this is the dumbest statement I have heard yet. It only takes a few milliamps to stop the heart! Consider yourself very lucky indeed and go buy a lotto ticket. I have completely re-wired our switchboard and have a total of 4 RCD's on it for protecting various zones of our house. If you have everything wired up properly on your tank, you will have no problems with it tripping. They only trip when there is an imbalance across the phase/neutral/earth.
  6. You may be better off buying one of those cheap $100.00? generators that Bunnings/Mitre10/Warehouse/Kmart sometimes have to run your setup. Cheaper than an inverter IMHO.
  7. Bump. Any ideas people?

    Sick fish???

I have 2 of these fish, (bronze ones) and one is behaving strange. It continuously bobs rapidly (1 - 1.5 cm) up and down in a vertical manner. This has been on-going for the last 3 days. Was out in the open, but is now hiding between a large leaf and some driftwood. Sometimes it swims normally, but not often at all. What is the cause of this? All other fish in the tank seem to be as normal as they should be.
  9. Um, paint the blocks too. Also if you are cleaver enough you can place planks between the blocks for shelving too. 8)
  10. There is a new stand in the making, about 6 months away as we are demolishing the garage for a new workshop. 8) Picture frames are cheapos really, stuck to the wall with velcroe and will have snaps of our last major holiday to Thailand in them.
  11. Picture frames without pictures, ive still to print them out.
  12. Just added a rather log to the tank, cost me too much, but looks great in there. Got rid of most of the artificial bits in there too. Will invest in some more plants in the weekend too.Just need to find some more matching substrate for the bottom now, its a little thin in places for planting. Also have to move the filter inlet at some stage to the far corner, to be hidden by plantings. I will also place a piece of black garden irrigation hose in the opposite corner to hide the air hoses in.
  13. Same, fan on and windows open and its 28 inside!
  14. Do others not have venetian blinds in their tanks? The room gets up to 31deg even with windows and ceiling fan on in the heat of the day. The problem was with my Fluval 150W heater, it has packed a wobbly, sometimes on, sometimes off, but the thermostat is all over the place. I have another heater in ther for now and the water is hovering around the 27 deg mark. Im just turning it down the tiniest of a fraction every so often to get the temp down a bit more.
  15. Only early morning sun, windows face east and south east. Currently sitting at 27.8deg I just turned the thermostat down another click............ Might go shopping tomorrow.
  16. The one I have , has thermal protection in it to allow for watr changing etc.
  17. Seems my heater may be playing up, the water temp got up to 31Deg this morning and now it has gone down to 27.1, dropping rapidly over the past hour or so. I have placed an old on in the tank in the meantime. What fluctuations will tropicals put up with and what is the optimum temp? Tank is 90x45x45cm
  18. Pics of my fish are here, I do not know what most of them are called. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?p=299137#299137 A question on the feeding of vegies, how much do you give your fish, courgette etc, is this just sliced skin and all; are minted peas out assuming one uses frozen peas? etc tc etc
  19. I was hoping someone wasnt going to ask this just yet, im still working out what I have. I will be posting some pictures soon of the fish in my tank, when I can catch them all on film. I know I have a gold spot plecko, cardinal neons, shark?, black widow, rainbow fish, bristle nose plecko

    Vegetables

What vegies can I feed my fish? i.e. what fish eat specific vegies?
  21. Thanks for the replies. Just out of curiosity, what should the PH be? Looks like it is time to think of adding a couple more clown loaches and a siamese fighter in a month or so.
  22. Well, here it is, all set up in its temporary place until I can build a new cabinet for it. I transfered as much water as possible from the two tanks, 1/2 filling this one and topped it up with fresh water. There are now 2 heaters and filters operating, one filter will be removed after a week or so, keeping my external JEBO 810. Should i have the inlet suction at the opposite end from the spraybar? At present it is at the same end. PH test is 7.5, what should it be?
  23. Still awaiting a point of view from the experts if my theory is ok with this venture as the tank, fish and water etc will be arriving tomorrow.
