  1. Big fat Bluie Louie Blowflies are the one I detest the most. Is there a plant that excretes a fly repellent naturally? I thought I heard something about one many years ago???? It seems that every time we used fly spray, my fish started dropping off, so its basically banned here.
  2. Hi all, im wanting to borrow some scaffolding for a coupla months for my building project please, Christchurch area. I need to be able support a couple of planks and go 2 levels high. The usual liquid refreshments duly paid of course.
  3. You should also get yourself checked out at the Hospital as soon as you get an electric shock too. Electricity does weird things to your heart. and, you think 230VAC is scary, you want to step into my boots, we work with voltages up to 66kV! at work.
  4. Thanks, this will do me just fine.
  5. I was going for the silica sand as we are going to be replacing it in our pool filter, so I will get an extra bag. Yes washing it could be a tad difficult.
  6. This will be brand new from the shop, but I might boil it just in case all the same.
  7. Cheers for the info. Did you have to prepare it in any way first?
  8. I am thinking maybe the sand may take some time to settle. Has anyone any advise on using silica sand, (pool filter sand)?
  9. I am thinking of starting up again from scratch with my tank. For this I will be having my fish hosted at a friends place with 1/2 the tank water and one of the filters. I want to replace all the substrate shingle with silica sand, inserting another large piece of driftwood and replanting it all. I plan to scoop out the substrate and existing plants, but leaving 1/2 the water in there. Adding the sand and plants and topping back up with warm water. This will all be done over a period of an hour or two so I don't there will be too much of a problem with the remaining filter. The tank is 450x450x900mm. How long should I wait before I re-introduce my fish?

    Plywood tank

Why not use a glass tank and sit it in a plywood box to look like it is a ply tank?

  12. What a fantastic response, cheers peoples. I have my order placed for an Ox heart with my good lady; wot does the shopping.... I will do as suggested and; freeze, grate, add garlic and peas, mush together and place back in plastic cubes from blood worms and re-freeze. My fish love shelled peas, corn and broccoli. The on;ly other food they get is Tetra Min tropical flakes or crisps and JBL Pleco chips. As well as frozen blood worms and shrimp once a week.
  13. 1, Can we see a photo of the base please? 2, What thickness are the slats? 3, Take that stupid jacket off your toy dog! No wonder it dosent want to go outside.

    water foam

I have the same dilemma, I had 2 blue and 2 orange, now I only have one orange, but no bubbles.
  18. I use a 20L nappy bucket. Put it in the sink, turn on both taps full boor and it comes out at a nice consistent 26 deg. The tank is heated to 27.5 deg so the temp difference is not really noticeable.
  19. What about using two layers of your acrylic for the dividers and sandwich some nylon mesh (same as the small nets) as this will be finer than flyscreen mesh to prevent the little blighters from escaping. Sandwiching will make the dividers stronger too as I suspect you will want to make the mesh holes as large as possible.

  21. Yes I did think of a pipe brush:oops: , but with hoses around 2 meters long I think I will need to look at modding something to do the job.
  22. Excuse me for butting in here, but how does one clean the pipes out?
