  1. LOL bring it on I will get some pics in the next couple of days so you can see how fat they are... No sign of a gravid spot or anything, although I don't think these fish always show one
  2. Thanks Cam I am at wits end with one of my guppies lol twice now she has been as fat as anything with a huge very dark black gravid spot and I have moved her to the breeding tank, she gets herself all worked up and within and hour her gravid spot has lightnened a huge amount and no sign of fry Is it possible that she is sucking them up LOL sounds strange but man she is driving me bonkers lol
  3. Slowly but surely getting fatter by the day lol I am just having a problem deciding when I think they will drop
  4. Awwww poor babies Sorry to hear about your bubbas
  5. Well, Mama guppy was first in lol I put her in last night and within 2 hours she had presented about 20 fry :D I am still unsure about the balloon mollies, hard to tell how far along they are , since they always look fat lol
  6. *passes straw to Caryl* Be my guest :P
  7. Hi Sam, I picked the heater up last night, so all is going to plan now, just waiting for it to warm up nicely and should be good to put a mummy fish in there. Looks like the guppy will be first up, The balloon mollies are getting fat but don't look ready to explode yet lol
  8. I got my male a new girlfriend lol he looks like the cat that got the cream  Just picked up the new heater for my fry tank so female number 1 can pop anytime she lies lol
  9. Any of the leopard danios in our tank, anytime I go near the tank they swim right up to the glass and if I put my hands in the water they swim all round my fingers, they frequently nearly get sucked up the hose when I am doing a waterchange lol
  10. Awesome pic mystic!!!!
  11. Thanks for the replies guys I really wanted it to clean up any extra food in the fry tank I have just set up but I think I should really have gotten a smaller type of snail lol He is a messy bugger!! poo every where almost instantly!!! I decided to test it out and out him in my community tank and within 30 seconds it had latched on to a plant and take a HUGE chunk out of a leaf lol so it was back in the empty tank very quickly and I may have to take him back to the LFS and get something smaller lol  It is a shame as they are awesome to watch and look really good
  12. I got an Apple snail at the LFS today and on doing some research I thought it was "Pomacea bridgesi" which pleased me as they are not meant to eat the plants but then I searched this site and found that some one who was breeding them thought the yellow ones readliy available in pet stores were "Pomacea canaliculata", the thread I found was from way back in 2002. Does any one here know anything about these? I have it in a seperate tank at the mo but thought I may try putting it in my community tank to clear up some algae but I do not want to get up in the morning to all my plants looking like stalks lol TIA
  13. Thanks for your reply spink. I will have to get another female because the male is terrible!! I had been led to believe the guppys were the same but they female guppies tend to do most of the chasing around here lol and they are out numbered by the males. However these mollies are a very different story, the poor female hardly gets a minutes peace so I will be off to the LFS in the morning to get another female. Hopefully they have some, I have never seen these there before and there was not many either. I am also concerned that because of the size of them and the amount of waste they make that I am going to be overstocked. My tank is not that big and I have alot of fish in there, I may just have to do more frequent water changes and gravel vacs
  14. Thanks for the help. The tank is now set up, I have filled it completely with water from my community tank and put a few ceramic noodles from the existing tank in there too. Will just let it run for a few days and do a water test as I have to wait until I can get a heater any way, bugger no pet shops being open today lol
  15. Thanks for your reply adodge I have the standard filter that comes with those tanks which is a hang on the back, wet dry kinda thing (sorry I don't know the correct name) So I will put a stocking or something over the intake pipe. Am I better to have a bare bottomed tank so I can easily get rid of waste or some small gravel and plants? Sorry for the 20 questions, but I really want to get this right
  16. Hi guys, I am hoping to set up a fry tank, I have just got a AR126 (22 litres i believe) that I want to use. I have some guppy fry already in my community tank and the mamma guppies are in a family way again, and I also think my female balloon molly is due to drop any day looking at the size of her. My questions are: Do I need to cycle this tank before adding any fry or will they be so small as to not make a huge difference? I can use some of the ceramic noodles from my community tank so cycling shouldn't take too long I guess but I would like to save the first fry from my molly What should I use as a substrate? I have read of people using a bare bottom tank for fry but am not sure whether this is better or not. I am sure I will have 50 other questions lol Thanks in advance for any help
  17. I did think about BN. I was going on what my LFS would be likely to buy from me as they have local suppliers of most things. Although it is likely they would take what ever I wanted to supply them I was just trying to plug a gap in the market and not take sales from some one else lol The Guppies really do appeal and as they are sooooo easy to get to breed maybe I should stick with them for now. I have not seen any of the nice ones up here though, they are all bitsas lol Where would I source decent breeding fish from?
  18. I have bred platys in the community tank by mistake lol but my male karked it so I only have 1 adult female left and the only surviving youngun which is now about 6 months old lol I have baby guppies in there too, they are terrible LOL like damn rabbits
  19. I have got them cam, lol was a impulse buy and now I am wondering if I should have lol I am looking for something a bit different that is relatively easy to breed to have my first attempt at breeding
  20. I don't like the look of the plain mollies, these just appealed because they were different and the colours are cool. LOL back to my original plan lol I was going to breed leopard danios or guppys but I got sidetracked when I saw these today
  21. I did read after buying them that they can be weak. As I stated in my first post, I usually am very careful to do research first, but I fell in love with them lol So in your opinion they are not worth breeding?
  22. No need to be rude about it I like them and it is my tank they are in afterall
  23. Has any one bred Balloon Mollies? I have just been to the LFS and saw some and HAD to have them lol sooo cute. It is not like me to do this, usually I research the fish for ages before I buy. So essentially I made an impulse purchase lol and I have bought a M and F but I think I should get another F at some point too so the one I have dosen't get harrassed constantly. any way.... My question is, what are your breeding hints for these fish Thanks
  24. lmao ummmmm I have to admit I didn't
