  1. Yeah conch, you should be fragging your nice specimens to people like me can benefit
  2. I guess it depends on where ya live? Like by the sounds of things Auckland have way more variety than we have down here? Having only just started I haven't come across any issues, John always seems to have a nice selection... just waiting on his next shipment that will hopefully have a nice green bubble in it for me
  3. So I knew when I got my MCE600, that the deltecs can produce quite nasty smelling skimmate. In the previous weeks, I thought I had smelt all that the deltec could give me...... boy was I wrong! This morning I thought it would be a good idea to empty the skimmer cup. So I took it off and went outside to find the hose. On the way I tripped a bit and shook the cup enough so a small bit of liquid fell out of the overflow pipe and onto me...... now I thought I had a strong stomach, not much makes me even dry reach, but this stuff was soooooo nasty, and the fact that it had splashed on me...... lets just say the deck ended up with last nights fish n chips on it  Whats worse is that as I went to get the hose to wash it away, the dog (Charlie) came along and thought he'd like fish n chips for breakfast..... I'm SOOOO glad I wasn't hungover!! I guess it shows how bloody good the skimmers are if they can produce that kind of smell!
  4. I'd be keen on some of those snails if they survive? John was going to try and get me some but I haven't heard anything back from him so I'd imagine his attempts have been unsuccessful
  5. I reckon it would be one of the gouramis. I tried a couple of gouramis in my tank with my guppies and after a few days the death count began to rise. I've had all those other combinations in with my guppies aswel, none have caused any problems. But then again, it's all dependant on the individual fish. It may work for some people but not for others etc
  6. I've just found that playing with the triangle disperser thing, moving it up and down to find the right spot has basically solved the problem. My air valve sits about 1 o'clock.
  7. I've had my MCE600 on my tank for about a month and a half and it still creates bubbles every now and again. I've only just started stocking my tank now
  8. Could be wrong tho, it may sag, so thanks for bringing it to my attention, i'll keep an eye on it!
  9. The stuff I bought isn't acrylic, couldn't even tell you the name of it but I told the engineering place I bought it from what the application would be, so hopefully its a bit more heat resistant
  10. Ahhh grow my pretty (pretty ugly) thing! Out of the 5 corals i've got so far, the leather is probably the most interesting to watch. Waving that thread like shiz in the air then rubbing it on the little tiny polyp things and watching them take a mouthful and disappear hehe
  11. Will move it tonight Would my leather be happier higher up?
  12. Oh so it'll be happy at the bottom? I thought they needed a bit of light so he's sort of halfway up the rock. Might have a play round again tonight. I dont think the skimmer is working 100% efficiently because its pickup is inside the filter box so may need to move that aswel
  13. Hey all Finally got some Corals in the tank this weekend, but it would seem there is too much current as my frogspawn is getting battered around a wee bit. I'm running 3 powerheads (a 6025 & 6045 nanostream and the factory pump which I have facing the top of the water to disturb the surface) I've had to position the nanostreams facing towards the surface aswel. Would it be bad if I alternated the nanostreams? I.e in the morning have 1 side going, and 1 side off, then once i'm home from work, switch them over? I think because of the bowfront its creating alot of cross current and turning it into a small washing machine.... probably not that bad but after about an hour of playing round with the nanostream positions, I wasn't able to create a situation where it would work well.. Have a look at this pic, and feel free to make a suggestion as to where I could position the nanostreams? Cheers *edit* This pic was taken before corals were in
  14. Sure I can get a single one, but I didn't know they existed? And yep all I gotta do is mount to the hood. I've fabricated another piece of hood that will hold another light. I think 2 lights would be pushing it as I want to run reflectors Damn these corner tanks. I love the look of it, but bloody hell the lighting is difficult! The way its designed, I cant fit 22" lamps at the very back, so I'm stuck with the 18" T8's. I've come this far though, and I want to add at least 1 more 34" lamp. If I had thought of this before I bought the first T5 ballast, then I would've done things differently LOL
  15. Does anyone know if those ballasts will work if only 1 light is fitted? I should be able to fit 2x 34" T5's, but if its too tight, 1 might be the only option (Keeping T8's at the back)
  16. I'll have a look tomorrow. I'm just not sure what exactly comes with it and if it will have the "brackets" that i'll be able to attach to the hood Pretty sure Critter Kingdom on Ferry Rd have one, but I bet its $100+
  17. I spent most of the night awake thinking about how I can add some more T5's to my Juwel corner tank. This morning I've gone and purchased a decent sized acrylic sheet so I can cut it to the shape of the tank. At this stage I'm thinking of using reflectors to attach to the new acrylic cover (with spacers to try and prevent it from heating up etc) then attach the bulbs to the reflectors. This way I can keep the tank looking standard without having gaps in the covers etc. What I need to find is a T5 Ballast that I can just attach to the bulbs which "sit" there. I am thinking i'll be able to fit 2 more 34" (39W) and 2x 22" (24W) meaning 4x 34" and 2x 22" in total. This is the only thing I've found so far http://www.petplanet.co.nz/shopping/pgm ... d=291&=SID so I'd need 2 of these. Can anyone recommend the above or another option?
  18. Oh, I thought that was for aquariums without uncured rock, I.e kickstart the bacteria? I'm happy to add the rest for 1 - 60l, but I didn't think I'd need to?
  19. They're in Now we have to play the waiting game...
  20. Picked up some of this at Lunchtime http://www.prodibio.fr/anglais/bioclean.htm Couldn't see anywhere if I could dose at the same time. Can anyone shed light on this?
  21. Yeah was thinking of doing that tonight
  22. Yeah but the pump was sneakily replaced by the sounds of things Will change it to 1oclock when I get home
  23. to put it in perspective, at 2oclock, u can hear the noise of the air coming from the airhose over the noise of the pump
