  1. Thanks! Yeah they're there to deter the birds from landing on the roof. The birds are supposed to go straight onto the landing board and into the loft.
  2. Here you go Loft: Flights/Compartments (from left to right) Young Birds (birds that were bred of August last year): Storage: Hens: Cocks: End loft - new stock and doves: Food, Water and Grit: Water Dispenser: Food Trough and Terracotta Bowl: Grit Bowl: Trapping System: This is so the birds can't get out after they have come back in from flying.
  3. Sorry I haven't got round to posting the pics  I've been rather busy lately (I emptied my whole tank yesterday and gave it a huge clean). I'll hopefully get round to uploading some later on today
  4. We can't afford it But that does sound hilarious  Sometimes my canaries will sit on my doves and sing
  5. If you can't afford a good filter put a huge bunch of Indian Fern in there. Your fish should be fine
  6. Humans are the biggest pest of all :-?
  7. Thanks Phoenix I'll get an Eheim then
  8. You've never heard of an Orange Chromide? They are a cichlid from Asia. Just google it.
  9. I'll post you some pics of my loft tomorrow. What do you want the pigeons for? Food? Racing? Or just pets? I've found that if you can get tame ones they make fantasic pets, but if you want to bring it inside every now and then you'll have to clean up all the mess they make Racing is a waste of time - it isn't very rewarding, because you never see them racing, and you don't get any pleasure out of it if you don't win. If your not winning you are just wasting your time and money on it. If I were you I'd go for fancies - they are very beautiful and are fun to keep and breed You don't need a big aviary - in fact, avoid it! You want something small so the birds are easier to catch. The bigger you go, the harder they are to catch, and the more skittish they become. The great thing with pigeons is that they can be let out to fry around the neighbourhood, and they will come back into the loft for a feed when they are done. Feed them twice a day - once in the morning and once in the evening, and place the food in their bowl just after you have let them out - then they'll come in quicker because they are hungry You need to make sure the loft is always moderately clean - if you get them used to having it completly clean, you'll have healthy birds, but if they get a disease they'll go downhill very fast. Always make sure they are exposed to a bit of mess, to help build up their immune system so they become hardier and more disease-resistant. They also need to be regulary drenched - every two or three months is good. I give each bird half a Trichozole tablet and two or three drops of Moxidectin on the back of the neck (make sure it goes on their skin). I put Baycox in the water according to the packaging. Any other questions just fire away
  10. Wow your tank is looking fabulous I think you should put in more Bumblebee Gobies than six - maybe about 10? As for Crypts, you can try Cryptocoryne crispatula var. balansae. It likes hard water, but I'm not sure how it will respond to the salt. You will also need to invest in JBL Root Balls if you want to keep it healthy - Cryptocorynes are root feeders.
  11. Sorry I can't watch that youtube link. Youtube takes ages to load on our computer because we only have dial-up. But yes finches love to have a bath For some odd reason my three haven't figured it out, but the Zebra Finches I used to have loved it!
  12. Thanks heaps guys. It's practically impossible to get a multiboard that isn't surge protected. Only some the really crappy cheap ones aren't surge protected. I'll just get whatever looks good and sounds good on the packaging, and avoid the cheap ones
  13. OK thanks guys. I'll have a look at the Jebo ones.
  14. What about those air compressor thingies? How good are they? Here's a Hailea model - ACO 500
  15. You are best to find a breeder Phoenix. It is highly unlikely a shop would stock them. Also with a breeder you can buy guaranteed pairs and you can be sure that the birds you are purchasing are not related. Plus the prices should be quite good, and you will have a large range of birds to choose from. A lot of them don't eat much food though, so you will have to be constantly feeding them waxworms and moths, and mealworms and whiteworms plus other stuff. If you want to start of keeping exotic finches Gouldians are the best to start with because they are easy to care for, don't need too much livefood and eat mainly seed, and they are affordable and very colourful. You can choose out of the three natural colour morphs.
  16. OK thanks for that. I'll avoid them just in case
  17. Hi guys, I just went to Mitre 10 Mega to look at multiboards, and they had some pretty cool ones there. I want something that has at least six plugs, and a switch for each plug, and is surged/overload protected. They had some there that matched that description, and these were about $30 each which is quite good. But are there any particular ones that anyone swears by, and that are much better than others? Thanks, Joe
  18. Hi everyone, I need to buy an airpump, but I don't want to go down to the petshop and buy something that is most likely very noisy and a rip off  I need something quiet and powerful - it is to feed three 2.2liter Brine Shrimp boxes, a sponge filter for a small tank, and possibly also in my Apistogramma viejita tank Thanks, Joe
