    The What's Up? thread.

I'm getting a new aviary! Yay :happy2: A friend of ours is helping some people move house and they have a big aviary on their property that they need to get rid of and they said that I can have it for free if I want it. It's a lot stronger than the one I have now although I think it might be a bit smaller.
  2. Hey all, I have been trying to find a bird forum here in NZ. I don't want to join an international forum because the medications and stuff available there wouldn't be the same as what we have here so the info/advice would be totally useless to me. Thanks, Joe
  3. Wow that one looks really cool Sam! !drool:
  4. We don't give her a lot of cat biscuits, just a few because she likes them. We found this out because she always tips the cat bowl over and we saw her eating them  Also a lot of that info I read out of books I got from the library. Different people have a lot of different methods for keeping and breeding rabbits. There is no one right way of doing it Same as fish really
  5. My sister has a bunny. The bunny has a large run under the grapefruit tree outside. We've put an open hutch (with no netting) in there for her to sleep in and if it gets too hot. We bring her inside at night and she has a little indoor hutch to sleep in. Bringing bunnies in at night, especially in winter, lengthens their life span. We've had her for about 5 or 6 years. If it is too wet or cold outside she stays inside for the day too. She's pretty good - she doesn't chew on anything at all, and she stays around the kitchen, living room and the laundry area. We put newspapers in the laundry for her to do her buisness on, but she always ends up making a mess. We have three cats and they don't bother her at all. She's the one we have to watch! Whenever she gets dirty my sister gives her a bath. Sometimes we just let her run loose around the property, and we just take down the boards on her run so she can get back in. We never have her confined to a small space for a long period of time because that is cruel. Bunnies like to run around a lot. Also she likes to eat cat biscuits. They make her fur nice and shiny too. And just a bit of advice - if you want to get more than one bunny, get them at the same time, becuase if you get one and then decide you want another, the one you already have will attack the other one because it willhave already formed its territory. Don't feed them too much veges because it makes their poos runny which isn't good. Stick to pellets, hay, bunnie muesli and a bit of lettuce, and herbs, especially parsley. Here's some pics
  6. If standard T8's from the shop are good enough to grow plants, I don't see why the T4 wouldn't be. Just try it and see what happens

You can't get T8HO, only T5HO. My tank's 50cm high and I have a few low-light plants and I get good results with two T8's. If your only planning on keeping Crypts and Anubias, T8's will be just fine. I have very healthy C. cordata and willisii, and my tubes are probably over a year old. If you do go for T5HO's though, get one of those Hagen double tube ballasts. That way you can mount the lights further apart to get even spread. The Hagen GLO canopies are narrow so the light would be a narrow beam across the middle of the tank, so the ballast is a better option plus it's much cheaper than the canopy fixture. You can also buy whatever reflectors you want, or you could just make your own.

Just use some T8 tubes. Hagen PowerGlos would be the best option as the plants grow well under them and they also make the fishes colours look very nice.
  11. It actually does look good, but won't it look too dark when you put the oak leaves in and the water is full of tannins?
  12. I don't think you should paint it black; firstly, because this tank is a biotope and will be rich in tannins, it will be quite dark so by adding a black backround the whole tank will look too dark and the wood won't look as effective or stand out. Secondly, if you do go for a black backround and then change your mind about it or change the aquascape and need a different backround, then you'll have the problem of having to scrape off the paint from the tank which is such a pain, and you risk scratching the glass. It would be better to buy a sheet of black paper and stick it to the back of the tank with tape.
  13. Wow that's amazing, I really like it
  14. Cause I'm too lazy to get up that early  :slfg:

Poor turtle. I bet that ruined his day
  16. Pretty sure there was a picture on here somewhere of Jennifer's shellie tank which looked very cool. It had some Crypt. balansae in it which I though was nice because I find tanks with lots of sand and no plants pretty boring... It's nice to have a couple of plants here and there
  17. PM sent. Anyone else want higher resolution pics?
