  1. Poor fishies &c:ry They want $80 for a DIY CO2 setup with two coke bottles
  2. To solve your problem of not seeing them much - why not have an outdoor aquarium instead of a pond? They have a lovely outdoor tank setup for natives at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, which is what gave me this idea
  3. Hey everyone, I have four old, well-used (probably over-used) T8 floresent tubes here that I want to dispose of. Because they contain mercury and maybe other gas I don't want to just chuck them in the bin or take them to the dump because mercury is toxic. Is there a proper way to dispose of them? Also can they be recycled? Like have the gas drained or something and then it can be used to produce more flouresent tubes? I would prefer this than to just chucking them if it's possible. Thanks, Joe
  4. No the Tunze doesn't have a solenoid, so I'll need to buy one. I wouldn't ever use pressurized CO2 without a solenoid because it wastes a lot if you leave it on during the night.
  5. I have read somewhere that the solenoid and needle valve isn't that good quality. I can't quite remember where I saw it though, might have been here or an overseas forum. Maybe get a Tunze or something, they're good quality and pretty cheap too. I have one sitting in the closet that I'm waiting to use and it cost me $180.00 plus $8 shipping which was a really good buy.
  6. They don't cloud the water very much when you disturb them. That's one of the things I like most about JBL balls

Wow it is beautiful Caryl !drool: Those lotuses are awesome
  8. Just replaced the Atman 8000K with an Osram Lumilux 865 "Cool Daylight" from Mitre 10 Mega. It cost only $10.60, and is just as good, if not better, than the Aqua One Sunlight 6700K at the pet store which costs $35.00 or something like that.

    Danio erythromicron
  10. Do you have a nutritious substrate? Ever since I added JBL balls my Crypts haven't melted since. When I used to just have plain gravel in the pots they would melt quite a lot. I think maybe the nutrients make them a lot stronger or something.
  11. Talk to Cam at Petworld. He makes really nice tanks for good prices
  12. Awesome stuff Nav Good to see someone breeding threadfins, they are a very nice fish
  13. For some weird reason my crypts never melt :dunno:
  14. It has the exact same white marking behind the eye. Edit: Woops just noticed Ira pointed that out
  15. Wow that is really nice, brilliant photography skills !drool: Keep up the good work

Well I don't need to worry about anything until next year because schools just finished so I'm feeling pretty good now  And I've got my new tank to look forward to, and getting it set up :happy2:
  18. IMO I wouldn't bother with it, only 10mm glass for a tank that size is a huge risk, and even if it's only half full for your turtle. My 100x30x50cm was made out of 5mm glass, and one of the panels was cracked. I got it replace, and had the tank braced and reinforced. And it was usually filled 5-10cm from the top. I did some maintainance on it one day and accidentally dropped a terracotta pot (and it wasn't from a very great height either) and it cracked. I feel you'd be a lot better off getting a brand-new custom-made tank with nice thick glass, or just look for something that is a lot safer. But that's just my opinion

Yep like an ADA tank :happy1: I've come home from school today as I was being bullied quite badly and someone threw an orange at me so I was a total mess and so I've got myself cleaned up. I'm not going back because if I find out who it was then my fists will get me into a lot of trouble.
  20. Absoloutely breathtaking! Beautiful fish and tank, and the video is really good quality. !drool: I'm sooo jelous

Going to pick up my new tank from Christchurch on new year's day. 65x50x50cm internal base, 10mm glass, and it has starphire glass for the front panel :happy2: Lighting will be a brand-new Aqua Medic Oceanlight 1x150w HQI which is sitting in my closet at the moment. I'll get a $20 bulb from fish-street.com With my Christmas money my parents are giving me (they never bother with presents as I always want fishy stuff so they think it's easier to give me cash) I'll get some sand, peat, possibly an inline heater and a thermometer. This is going to be a blackwater biotope for Apistos

"Mmm tasty", says the cat  Once my cat brought a bird inside into my room and there were feathers everywhere, and the bird's head was right in the center of the room with the skull cracked and brains showing
  23. It scared the hell out of me
