    The What's Up? thread.

Did you see any Apistogramma? :bounce:
  2. Before the forum broke down there was an auto-resizing thingy and they automatically resized, and I posted most of them before the forum broke down.
  3. Well we know about it now, so it isn't much of a secret is it? :slfg:
  4. Well change of plans, the fish are staying in the 140L. And because there's no fry left I've moved the male and the other female back in too I have also put the other Ehiem 2213 onto this tank since I've only got 6 fish left in the other tank, and the Green Neons and Reed Tetras are loving all of the extra flow! I'm getting two new breeding tanks, so this is going to become my main tank. I'm going to plant it with Indian fern but it will still have all the tannins and I will still put oak leaves in. I might need to add more substrate if I am going to grow plants though because it isn't very deep. I might also grow some Echinodorus and some Java fern and Crypts but I'm not sure yet. Once I get the new tanks and some live food cultures and other bits 'n bobs I will attempt to breed the Neons. Also the breeding tanks will be ideal for the trifasciata because once I've finished with the Neons, I can put a female in each tank and put the male in with one female, and then do the same with the next female, and then the male can got back in the 140L. Then I can have two lots of trifasciata fry going at the same time
  5. Yay I'm pulling this tank down :happy1: :bounce: So it will be going back to the person that I borrowed it from. The only down side is that all (or most) of my plants are going. I'll be giving them to Jennifer though, so they'll be in good hands The agassizii have been sold (to someone who already has a tank set up for them to breed in ). Now I have just have Apistogramma trifasciata, Hyphessobrycon elachys and Paracheirodon simulans. And also four annoying Trigonopoma pauciperforata and two annoying Hyphessobrycon heliacus that will be going to the local hospice tank that was set up by a club member here. I will be getting two smaller tanks (both combined will hold more water than this one) for breeding. So watch out for a new thread sometime in the future!
  6. Hmmm. Not too bad
  7. Thanks for your helpfulness
  8. Looks nice, but IMO two themes in the same tank looks weird. Just stick to one theme
  9. I just wanted to try and culture as many different types of live food as possible because I thought that it would be nice to have a variety of different things for my fish Thanks for your answers Most of those I haven't a clue of what they are  I've just heard of them before and I know nothing about anything about them, so I just wanted to know what others thought of them I am a complete noob when it comes to live food, so sorry if you guys think some of the stuff that I ask seems a bit silly
  10. There aren't 10 left. I haven't even seen one for a few days now
  11. Okay so maybe I will give them a go then Also some other foods that I am thinking of doing... How hard are these to culture and what are all your experiences with them? - Rotifers - Cyclops - Green water - Infusoria - Paramecium
  12. I think she means that if you feed just whiteworms that it is quite bad for your fish because they've got more fat in them.
  13. Okay so maybe not worth the effort for the neons then? I will try to get these cultures set up: - Microworms - Whiteworms - Brine Shrimp And I've already got the blackworms. Those, and the whiteworms, will just be used for the parents because of course they're too big for the fry. And I can also feed the parents some of the microworms and brine shrimp so they have more variety Just been looking at some other foods... Are any of these good for the Green Neon fry? Frozen Rotifers NLS Small Fry Starter Formula 1mm NLS Grow Formula 0.5mm JBL NovoBaby JBL Nobilfluid Artermia Decap Brine Shrimp And for the parents... NLS Community Formula 1mm NLS Small Fish Formula 0.5mm NLS Thera A with extra Garlic 0.5mm NLS Freshwater Flakes with Garlic AHT Brine Shrimp Flakes AHT Freeze Dried Daphina Also I'm not looking to buy ALL of these, I just want to know whats good, whats not, and if it is suited for the Green Neons and the fry and worth purchasing Thanks for your help so far everyone

    Two filters?

Definitely add the canister - as people have said, the more filtration the better I have looked at all-in-one tanks at shops before and the built-in filters that they come with really do not have sufficient biological media capacity, and IMO are only really useful as chemical and mechanical filters. What you could do it use the built-in filter for just that, and fill the canister with bio media
  16. Wow the plant growth is amazing !drool: Awesome layout  Why do you have an air stone in there? With all those plants you'll be getting plenty of oxygen in the water, and if anything the air stone will be driving out any CO2 in the water which the plants like
  17. Cool thanks Alan I used to have white worms but I neglected the culture and I lost it but I'll get some more. I can remember that my fish used to absolutely love them! Grindal worms sound a bit too difficult for me to manage. What about wingless fruit flies? Has anyone tried them?
  18. Thanks so much for that information, it is extremely helpful We don't have a Spotlight store in Blenheim but we are going to Christchurch in the near future to get some stuff so I can have a look there. And there will probably be tonnes of other stores that will have some mesh of some sort there, so I should have quite a good range of different things to choose from I will try and get a brine shrimp hatchery or two going. And the microworms should be easy too. I actually used to have some but the fish I had at the time weren't as small as the tetras and they never touched the microworms so I ended up chucking the cultures out  Are there any other types of live food that I should culture apart from the mircoworms, brine shrimp and blackworms, whether it for the fry or for the adults? I would like to try and give them a variety of different things if possible.

    Soon...

Ooooh that's a pretty swordplant !drool:
  21. Right ho - I am giving back my 120L tank because I am borrowing it. All of my plants are going to Jennifer. Pots will go outside. I am going to get two 45cm cube tanks with canister filters, heaters and clip-on lights to grow the Indian fern. The 140L tank will stay as is. The fish will be spawned in the two seperate tanks, so that way I can spawn them at different temperatures to get a good mix of males/females. I'm also looking at getting some more live food cultures. Mum and I are planning a trip to Christchurch in the near future so I can get some supplies. Caryl I have replied to your email about the fly screens
  22. Oh my gosh they are so cute
