    Who set you up?

Had been diving in the red sea for many years (many years ago) and since came to NZ and missed all that magic. so my daughter turned up with a little tank 20cm and that prompted us to go to HFF Albany to get some FW fish. but after looking at their display and asking few questions I went back the next week and spent around $1000 on rocks and hardware.

    Miracle Mud

I wonder how close miracle mud to mangrove mud in nutrition value
  7. Where do u get this generic stuff?
  8. bring on the pics, bro
  9. Nice tank. Sorry to hear about the emperor, how long you had the emperor? I've got one, and it is usually recommended to buy them juveniles (imported juvenile), otherwise chances they may not make it.
  10. and don't forget to put a sign "clowns, enter at your own risk"
  11. can these fish live in a sea water?
  12. I read an article from Israel that some reefers over there collect water from the Mediterranean sea, now, that is one polluted sea that makes takapuna water sparkling clean with comparison. and I can confirm this as I found myself at times swimming in Tel Aviv beach surrounded by floating pieces of crap.
  13. I've been using Takapuna water for over a year and so far no probs, UV filter has proved to be very important when using NSW
  14. Have noticed lately that coral beauty gets more and more aggressive towards the clown fish which always guard their anemone, he gets close enough and start do the war dance and then they get all exited and reply with their own intimidation dance. But in the last couple of weeks he started having a go at the Naso tang which is almost about 3 inches long and growing by the day. Anyhow, with naso’s body getting bigger and fatter so his two spikes at the base of his tail fin and he is starting to use them by rubbing them against the coral beauty face. I can see that C.B is gonna find out the hard way very soon (when Naso's spikes grows and become nasty) how painful this exercise may be.
  15. cyano stayed last time (after installing big skimmer and water filters) for over a month reaching peak before it disappeared. I suspect that i am adding phosphate by feeding frozen food(I use red sea phosphate tester and it shows low levels, when Chris (cookie) took the same water sample and tested it on his salifert tester it showed above recommended levels) . when i think about it: 12 (smal to medium size)fish in an 900 ltr system with big skimmer (works really well) and 4 stage water filter, cyano should probably not be a problem. Maybe in my case it was an upgraded tank unbalanced syndrome... I hope.
  16. my experience with cyano is that: i had it in my old tank and one day it disappeared only coming back in small quantities after the initial "disappearance" After the upgrad to twice the size and installing 4 stage auto top off unit and a big skimmer 3 pumps R.O i declared on this forum that i was cyano free... and I was.. for about couple of days. then it came back and boy it was back refusing to go and even getting to a pick 3 weeks ago when i started considering the "vodka" solution. I really needed a lot of patients to wait it out and hope it will disappear and again it did about couple of weeks ago. Tank has been without any trace since then strangely as if it was never there. Moral of this long story is: maybe all you need is a bit more patient, in my case i wanted it resolved and balanced the problem the natural way which must be the best way... the most important thing in reefkeeping... patience Hope that helps
  17. thanks guys, I am thinking of striping the tank myself and then taking it for a professional rebuild is it straight forward job, if so what tools do i need? also, if i do that what would be a reasonable price for me to pay for somebody to rebuild it?
  18. Just wondering if anybody can recommend a place to reseal a "burst seam" on a 6 foot tank, hopefully on the north shore Thanks...
