    at my wits end

The UV light kills germs as the water passes though it.
  2. I am not aloud another tank. The mrs said. I got one tank with danio fry growing in it. Got another tank with baby swordtails and another tank with female guppies. I think I'll need to get the hedge trimmer out and cut down same of the plants. Free swimming space is getting small and almost impossible to vac the gravel. Each danio like to setup there own little micro territories, no other danio aloud in(other speices are okay). The neons do the same, so much for schooling fishes. Neons only school if I upset them.
  3. Hello, I keep wondering what is the correct temp for my set-up. The current temp is 25degree C. Fish stocks are: 4 Pearl Gouramis 10 Neon Tetras 2 Brissle nose Catfish 10 Zebra Danios 16 Guppies 4 Swordtails It is a HEAVY planted 130ltr tank(it's a jungle). Nitrate are always under 5ppm when I test. Also is the tank overstocked. I was hoping to get a couple of kribs and a half dozen of corys. Regards Chris
  4. Try a UV filter. Someone else here has just had a problem with cloud water. They got a UV filter. now no cloudy water.

Remove the big fishes and add a few hundred danio fry. They'll eat the bloom.
  7. Had a Oscars that flared up at my ex father inlaw, noone else.
  8. Sorry, I thought these foods were excellent foods. Why is my thinking this wrong??
  9. Hello, I breed danios last week. what I did is: set up a 2ft tank breeding tank and set the temp to 28 degrees(normal tank temp is 25). Breeding tank has a single layer of 15-20mm riverstones, this is so that the eggs can drop inbetween the gaps. Some poeple use marble, but there are expensive. In the evening I put the danios(I have only 5) in the breeding tank. Next morning remove the danios. After about 5 days you will see fry sticking to the glass. I have read info that danios are loyal partners, so I reckonmend putting all the danios of one breed in for breeding. Be warned, the babies are small, you will need to feed infusia and rotifers for the first week and then baby brine shirmp. infusia recipe: glass jar with tank water plus a piece of lettuce, leave in a warm place. After 3days it will be ready. Use eye dropper and put same of the cloudy water in to the tank.
  10. wondering, what cuased it to be uncycled? Just want to learn so I don't do the same thing.
  11. If no injuries I would leave it alone. My pearl gouramis nip each other sometimes, espically the male. My danios fight all the time(so much for schooling fish). My noen tetras bicker all the time(so much for schooling fish). Still no injuries.

    low Nitrates

Hello, I am not sure if it is a silly question to ask, but. The nitrates in my heavly planted tank are less than 5ppm. I was wondering if nitrate levels wood be better at around 10ppm for the plants? And if so, what would be an economical way of do this. I am using these fert balls from the LFS at the moment, but my understanding is that some plants absorb there nutrients from the water. One day I would like to try the daltons aquatix mix and sand for the tank. I have seen a lot of discussion on here about and it seems to be a really cool idea. Regards Chris
  15. when my guppies are given birth, I often see the female turn around and eat the baby that has just pop out. Anyone got any tips to stop this. I have tried the net breeding traps, guppies seem to stress out in them. Have tried a one foot tank with java moss in it, still only small numbers surviving. Regards Chris
  16. Hello. I was wondering if rotifers are big enough to eat or damage danio fry. I have seen billions in one of my tanks. They look really cool under the mircoscope. Seems like rotifers would make excellent food for young fry. Regards Chris
  17. I was told 2 females to each male. Also may want to try and reduce the population in the tanks so the is less crowding.
  18. I have been told that livebreeders(guppies) like salt in the water. 1tsp per 4.5ltrs. That is what I have been doing.

    Tokaanu swamp

    Thank-you VERY much.
  20. Hello, got some worm looking like things free swimming in the tank. They are about .5 to 1mm in lengh. They appear to be white in colour. I can only see then when there in a strong light shining from the side of the tank. They are to small for me to see any kind of swimming action, but there swimming is smooth not wriggle or jecky. I don't know if these thing are a problem or not. Can anybody give me any ideas of what they are. Or direct me to some drawings of worm like animals to help indentify them. No fish in the tank at the moment, did have danios in the tank earlier for spawning. Regards Chris
  21. Put the aquatic stuff down on the bottom of the tank. Then put the progating sand on top of that. The sand is there to help stop the aquatic stuff mixing with the water. Also when filling your tank with water, be sure to put a plate or something to take the impact of the water hitting the bottom. This is to help stop stirring up the aquatic stuff and making the water cloudy.
