Yeah -better that way than skeletons! You have a lovely Kadango male . This shot- It's a few mths old but a shot of my Azureus male as Juvi Azureus are notorious as cross breeders- I've found the males to be very subordinate and very unprotective of their females. And from what i've read they are easily rolled by most other Utaka males. It's a lovely fish but I guess the hard question now is-can you be 100% on what it is?- whatya think?

Aulononcara nyassa was a descrptive term for any number of Aulononcara Sp. Lake Nyassa -the old colonial name for malawi or Nyassaland,. but not necessarily a hybrid. That seems to be a recent label for 'lazy' people. What ever they are they are 'well/over' fed. #1- without history pick a number and hope for big wednesday. #2 -would expect more in the way of utaka spots to be 100% sure of Azureus.
  3. Cool- can I ask where you're getting them from. I've read a few accounts of peckoltia breeding on PC as L134 is favourite and they do seem to be a species that breeds well in captivity. Good luck. Photo?
  4. I resize my images to 500kbs for photobucket which seems to be about 500X350 at 72 Dpi. This seems to make it quick and easy and is workable for others like me who are forced into the dark ages by telecom. Even though I can see the centre of the biggest city in the country by line of site., telecom NZ are too lousy to enable my exchange with broadband. Please tell me you have broadband where you are Caper!. Although I do seem to remember 'Rogers' seem to be a bit of a monopoly itself.
  5. look for the males to generally have greater amount and length of bristles on cheek odontodes and on leading ray of pectoral fins. These guys seem a lot like what was called panogolus species of panague like L204. L104, L226, although males don't seem to have same degree of lower body bristles. Probably the reason there common name is a panague when they are desribed scientifically as a ancistrini sp. My supposed male also is wider in the head and the the supposed female while narrower in the head is wider in the abdomen. If you can grab some shots conch that would be good.
  6. Finally -shots of my two L239, as I said I think there is apair. I'll try to get a shot of the L114 when i shift it in a few days as it is pretty secretive and is ensconsed in a little cave
  7. If you like the schooling then tetras are hard to beat. I like the Harlequin rasboros as well as they are a great mid-level schooler. A few Rainbows also for the character and some harmless chasing. Keyholes in my experience are OK for community, but wouldn't say they are high on character. and I'm like Ryan with rams-love them but- OK getting them up to spawning stage then they always seem to fall over on me, but pair of apistos sure add character to any tank. A couple of Angelicus, zebra or that sort of loach will play with other all day.
  8. Conch- Proof & photos please A group of 18 L270's came in 2 1/2 yrs ago as juvi's(less than 6 mths old). Mr plecos are from this group, so yours must be an earlier group brought in. When and where? A photo of a 5yr old breeder would be great to see.
  9. Absolutely no Tabis Simon!!!!!- These are Hypans- even JBL has stated this food isn't any good for them , even though a zebra is on the label.

    L239 & L114

picked up two L239's and was bloody happy. Size about 9cm and by sheer luck i got a boy and a girl. These guys have been way up on my list of plec to have, Is anyone else getting some of these? Also got a L114-Leopard cactus-very pretty. will try some shots Saturday when they've settled in.
  11. Again- nxt you'll be selling them off as live food. Holiday-Hmm, maybe it's babyfish we need to send away for a while-HA!
  12. Nice Jake- you might have to go on holiday for a few days according to Mr Pleco's breeding accounts. Thats if you ever get that cave back. Nice score.
  13. Yeah -litho female for mine, Kandango female, and some mbunaXDragons blood thinggy whatzit.
  14. wait for the re-list at a new reserve!

    YAAAY!

The chilumba is one of the smaller of the peacocks so ryans is pretty much full grown. Also quite timid so hard to colour up well in with other bigger haps.
  16. That PH seems very high with the amount of buffering you've described. Waterchange and retest. Test also your water supply, if you're on tank water and it is low it may have risen. Also if you have bought water lately as Bore water is usually very hard. It probably should settle with time.
  17. Put them in a bag and then in the smallest poy box. I have done this numerous times no worries.
  18. Yeah HFF have had them recently, probably still have. Goldfish Pagoda had a Adult recently and seems to have them quite frequently, but it was described as alternative name-Green terror
  19. I would quarantine and medicate, start with melafix perhaps. It could it be a result of a fight during or around breeding. How are your water parameters? might need to test it as well, looking for nitrite/nitrate spikes. It's probably not contagious but would definitely pay to isolate
  20. Alan Those figures, and your comments are obviusly from a fish breeder. Yet some people just breed fish. that is a small but very important distinction in both philosphy and the physical realities of such an enterpriser.
  21. not with the blues are they? if so how are they coping
  22. Seem to be a number of cochliodon around, not sure if one has been positively ID'd as L137. Must admit that the hypostumus and cochliodons are growing on me. lucky i'm getting low on room. Catbrat - what cochliodons were the ones you had a while ago?
  23. L 25 is currently available in a few shops here in AKL, probably one of the biggest 'non common' plecs you'll get here. common name- Scarlet pleco. Also seen lately- L253, L128
  24. I agree with smcoleman. Surely the term 'breeding pair' is describing a pair of fish that have or are stilling breeding- not laying eggs or laying about thinking about laying eggs. At least with cichlids the term even when used in a speculative manner has a chance of living up to the term. how many plecs are advertised as a breeding pair when barely sexable. Discus females can pair up and lay can't they?, Do Uarus?- or is David R making a stereotype based on their spikey dorsal.
  25. Yeah-the variety of fish in the Amazon river and or the Amazon basin are probably as numerous as the conditions the live in. These shots are actually Rio orinoco( taken in thre dry season). the volume of water is greater and faster than the Amazon. Rocky with muddy sandy bottom and not as much wood as other areas. Maybe be more specific in your google search- as Rio Nero and Tapajos, and rio Xingu will be different again.
