  1. its name is saurus cernuus, but i believe its common name is "lizard's tail", named after its inflorescence, though i have heard it called mouse's ear too.
  2. my female tropheus duboisi spawned and has a brood in her mouth she's currently in with 9 other duboisi and 6 boesmani rainbows ( they've learnt to live on spirulina, would u guys recommend that i remove her or would that make her swallow? ps. can u feed duboisi mysis and brine shrimp? i heard that u could because they're very high in roughage... thanks

    bristleworms

could you guyz please tell me what sort of bristleworm is this and how bad they are to have in a tank? photo is enlarged, ive only seen ones in my tank about 1-1.5cm long
  4. ben, plz check your private messages
  5. i put some of the val in my duboisi tank (it's gone now) the rest i chucked in my worm farm (it's gone now too!). you wouldn't have wanted it, it was beginning to be covered with beard algae. i was able to bleach my anubias -they're tough- but val would have just melted. thanks for all your comments!
  6. ive heard that high pH causes this algae, and adding exra carbon dioxide should rectify the problem, is this true?
  7. i found that after i shifted to t5s my anubias began to really take off, i started with one bunch 5 years ago though... i have co2 and i sprinkled a little laterite amongst the anubias roots (the ones out of the gravel) to give them extra iron. tanks look awesome guys!
  8. here's my most recent tank pic
  9. how much is too mch trimming? indian fern floats well. you could even try duckweed -provided that you control it, no pruning just scooping. Cardamine lyrata and Hydrocotyle leucacephala are possible, maybe riccia or nymphaea.
  10. thanks fishkeepa i will post another pic in two weeks. i might have to trim back some by then though...
  11. i wouldn't think so as long as other nutrients like co2 and ferts are in ample supply too. clearly if you've got 2 150w halides light isn't going to be the limiting factor but for the plants to actually use that light u need to supply everything else in extremely high quantities. furthermore, i wouldn't reccommend too many fish with that much light, as additional nitrate and phosphate with all that light could lead to an algae bloom- combat this with several fast growing natives to compete with this algae.
  12. i decided to pull out all my val. two weeks ago. i now have fewer fish and 4x39w t5 ho tubes. here are some pix from two weeks ago and some taken this morning. i'm quite pleased with the growth.
  13. my aquarium ( got beard algae , but getting 5-6 flying fox very soon and have increased the co2) young male bolivian ram valiseneria bed
