  1. More neons would help but I am surprised the ones you do have hide away. My tetras only hide at night and the moment the lights on they are out and about.
  2. Horizontal - scared Vertical - ready! However apparently females never lose their horizontal stripe tendencies but males do.
  3. Depends on the parents coloring but around the 6 weeks some colour should start to appear.
  4. great looking tank and that piece of driftwood is exactly what I've been looking for!
  5. well done and thank you for sharing do you have lighting on the breeding tanks or are they blacked out?
  6. Spray bar generally goes into the water unless you require it above the water level for some reason. If you want surface movement point the holes in the spray bar to the top of the tank, if you want less water movement point them to the back of the tank.

    flaring females

Yes and they also fight - quite viciously - with each other too. Enough to rip fins and tails. I find mine only get stroppy when theres a drop in air pressure, the rest of the time they are fine. If you have a male around they will be worse. I find the more females the better.
  8. An increase in the incidence of faulty pelvic (ventral) fins and one other. To do this I need to find out if anyone has managed to spawn any of the platinums that have been sold either in the shops or via tm in the last year or so.
  9. Wanted this to reach more than just those who read the anabantoid section. Mods if you don't want this here please move it. I am wanting to know those who have bred or attempted to breed the Platinum siamese fighters that have been in the country, particularly in the last year. Doesn't matter whether they are imports or locally bred. I am wanting to research what I think may be a genetic defect but need more data. If you are willing to help please let me know. Thanks
  10. Yes do wash it again - preferably boil it and leave it in the sun to make sure that anything in it will be killed off. Its better to be safe than sorry.
  11. I don't use my credit cards to buy Christmas presents. Its about the only time of the year that they are kept in my wallet! If I don't have the money then I spend less. We'd rather spend the day together and have a great time than get lots of expensive gifts from each other. Makes the day more relaxed and more fun. I also make sure that any credit cards are paid off by end of November.
  12. yes it is but with secret santa you don't name who gave the gift. this way it just saves everyone from having to buy for everyone else and spending heaps.
  13. Hi Your landlord should be covered for carpet damage and drying under his insurance (contents or house). We have cover on the property we rent as it is necessary for our mortgage.
  14. A few of my friends up here have a really good scheme going for Christmas presents for the family. They put all the names in a hat of the people that are going to be together on the day and draw a name out of the hat. That person is the one and only they will buy for and spend about $50 on it. Hmmm

Hi, with both the second betta and sae it could be dropsy, I have just lost my 4th SAE to this this year. For the first fighter it could be old age, could have had a stroke. Dropsy is caused in theory by the internal organs failing causing the fish to retain fluid, however I think there is a link between this and the amount of bloodworms fed (and I did say 'I think" as others may disagree).
  16. You will find that if male fighters have too much current they can not rest upright but tend to lie over on their sides. Its because its too hard to hold the fins and tail up when there's too much water movement.
  17. The fry are now 8 weeks old approx. I'm really pleased with the majority of them. Starting to be able to sex them. Some pics (a few!) The majority have the paler bodies but there are a group of green/blues.
  18. just seen this - was sitting in the church (funeral) at the corner of barrington street listening to a song and the next thing on one side of the church the hail belted down, and again when we were driving back to the airport. anyway enjoy yourself Wok - I was virtually brought up at the Canterbury A&P Show and the Addington Race course and every year at this time I start to twitch
  19. From that pic he looks okay. How much current is in the tank?
  20. Do you mean of the whole plant Alan? Will try as you can see the plant is not very big, it grows very slowly and if anything knocks into it it breaks off.
  21. thanks Caryl - for all the hard work and time this takes.
  22. whoops sorry Dixon  yes I do mean Olly Its the alzheimers again!
  23. my 'red pine' looks nothing like your 'red pine' and is in fact redder than the picture shows. My tank is not highly lit either but the shoots don't come through green and then turn red they come through with the red tinge on them. The plant is extremely slow growing and delicate and the leaves are pretty small.
