  1. that sounds like a nice job. I think we will go around and around, but I still think there is a place for both, like most business, you can always find something cheaper, no matter what the product, but then, I am sure that you are aware, that no matter what the product ie dog, cat bird, fresh water/marine. there is always someone doing it privately, and yet you are sucessful at it. I do understand your point, and like you, I am in business, and have to deal with the lower price situation all the time, but it would not be business if it was not there.... keeps us all honest I spose.
  2. from what I have heard, no they are fine, they just like to take over the tank. There has been discussion recently about them, you may like to refer to that thread. mj
  3. dogmatix what role/position do you have? store?
  4. sorry, not sure what you mean. How can you buy up all the stock if it is only from one supplier? That is not all the stock. I am fairly new to all of this. Why, if there was a shortage of stock, from the one suppler, did you not purchase off the other supplier/suppliers, and maintain a position of strength based on service, supply and technical knowledge?
  5. I cant quite see how you can say that a lower price is not good for the hobbie? I have purchase alot from Hollywood, and I am sure that there are alot of newbies who started out at a LFS, paying full price, and happy with that. I still am. I would pay full price for things if they had them in stock, but I find stock levels very low, or, if you are not there on the day or two they arrive, it is all gone. I got very dissapointed in the early stages of the hobbie finding stock levels very low. Maybe they should buy up all the stock and then we would not be able to look elsewhere.
  6. hi Timtam22 I have heard that although nice, they like to divide, alot, so in the long run it appears easier to take them out while they are only a few/one or two. Wonder what likes to eat them? MJ
  7. So, Reef, You are telling me that if you sold me a fish/coral on trademe at the same price you sold it to a LFS, you would not make as much money as if you sold it directly to a LFS? :-?
  8. Reef you seem very defensive about anything that goes againts your current importer/lfs situation. ie, your last comment about profitable... you tell us how selling on trademe for more than you paid for it, with zero advertising costs etc can not be profitable. Reef, I value your input, but when you try to defend a position of justification, I feel disappointed in you. Stay honest to yourself, and keep away form political agendas Look forward to your insite on other threads Reef. MJ

    bad day

re Copper... from my reading on copper and white spot treatment... if you treat with copper, the coral/rock will absorb the copper, and will release at any stage in the future, meaning, if you ever have any kind of live corals, they may die over night from the release of the copper. If you want to treat, then i would use a qt tank. But, from my limited experience, with the right water condition, and good feeding, this is a better way than a chemical intervention. mj

    New Fishie!

is that a blue one??? Good on you. What a day, is a chrissy present to yourself? I think i will probably be heading down the same retail therapy track as you... still lookin for the elusive blue one... might need to change all my lights to blue..................
  11. oh dear  hhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
  12. not sure why it is a problem, its just an alternative. I would not have see any difference between trademe or a LFS. Both have their +ve and -ve, sort of cancel each other out wouldnt you say.
  13. so, they are all fairly much the same? and if there is a difference, is it probably not really worth worring about? MJ
  14. thanks, but is there a diffenence between a blue T5 and a Actinic, and if so, does it really matter?
  15. hi ady_uk can you confirm you sp
  16. it all depends on the old supply and demand.. if it was different, better, healthier, or just there and I want it, and I want it now, then I would pay more than I would normally would. Especially fish, which I hear are very difficult to frag........
  17. i am getting confused. My question is about "actinic" the light spectrium,
  18. good news cookie. Question. Is there any difference between "arcadia " and blue lights. if so, how can you tell the difference between the two when purchasing? PS. Frags are great. 8)
  19. Details My tank is 600 deep, and I have a couple of torch corals on the bottom, slight motion coming from a sea swirl. lighting is MH 250k, and a couple of t5 for morning and night. my leather, anemone, and sps are all doing well, it is just the Lps that are not coming out like I know they are surposed to and have seen in the past. I like LPS and want to see them do alot better. Thanks
  20. sounds like great advice, this is what I did for my first time "white Spot" and it has nearly all cleared up. We should have this question on a sticky for the new to marines etc... stop the beginner panic setting in. mj

    to rich for me

    not sure what you mean?
  22. I found this so, can I import a male Blonde Naso?
  23. good to see the post of your tank Rocketman I have a little star fish like yours. Have not seen it for a while, probably need to get up earlier in the morning to catch it. Thanks for the reminder. I have heard they are able to take over the tank. Kind of nice to have one, but not if they are going to cause a problem. Just like plants, the definition of a weed is a plant you dont want and have trouble getting rid of. mj 8)
  24. Thanks Gannet Initially I thought it was a powder blue tang, because of the colours, but if you look at its face, it is a Naso face. If some one is going to the zoo sometime, maybe a second opionion would help, as to the colour.... might settle for a powder blue tang, my wife likes the colour... MJ 8)
