Clownfish are very similar to the good old Sword Tail You can have 2 females in a tank and not long after that you will have 1 Male and 1 Female, Females will change sex, This will not happen the other way though. As for telling them apart, I am not sure on that one, somebody is sure to tell you at some stage hopefully Cheers /Bruce

Not suitable means that they will not work effectivley at all, 99% of the available models will NOT cool down to the desired levels at all, well at least not without giving themselves a very expensive hernia within a very short time frame. Normal A/C units are filled with R22 refrigerant this will not boil (Yes thats right Boil) at anything below 15 degrees C, by the time you add 2 degrees C on for heat loss you end up with the minimum cooling for this gas Hope this helps Cheers /Bruce

There is a place in Hawkes Bay called Hawkes Bay Aquaculture who are meant to be breeding Seahorses for commercial use, any one please correct me if I am wrong please Cheers /Bruce

Purchasing young Guppys as live food could prove very expensive, Guppys are a relativly easy seller for those who breed in both large and small quantities and are quite easy to sell for a reasonable price to local retailers, so as far as price go's then you would be looking at paying around the same price as retail stores, anywhere between $1.00 and $2.00. I think the easiest and cheapest way for you to go would be to breed your own My 2 cents worth anyway Cheers /Bruce

Hi Caryl Spoke to our resident fridgey at length today, He recommended the following Air Conditioners are NOT suitable as they have a range where the work in and 10-15 degrees is not within that range, Air conditioners work between 17 and 27 degrees not any lower or higher than this, even replacing the refrigerent with a low end type would not be successful in this case. The only way to go would be a Glycol Heat exchange system and here are the prices (These are off the top of his head and within $50 each way) Glycol Pump $600 Stainless Steel Heat Exchange $1100 Controller Thermostat $500 Wiring-Plumbing $300-400 Labour & Sheetmetal Work $400-$500 Total Cost Around $3000 Give or Take There is nothing that he is aware of that is off the shelf and a reasonable price Hope this helps in some way, at least you know you can discount the Aircon option Cheers /Bruce

Hi Caryl I was sort of meaning a good looking cover on the front etc, Data's easy, getting a pretty pic on the front always gets me
-
Hi Caryl I would think somewhere in the vacinity of $20-$25 plus delivery cost would be reasonable, given the cost of media these days, would all depend on volumes though I suppose and how the copies would be manufactured, gets expensive when you get them profeesionally done etc Would be good to get some more feedback from others as well Cheers /Bruce

Hi Cees Any chance of putting the database on CD-Rom at some stage? Maybee sell copies through the FNZAS? Cheers /Bruce

I do have to defend Napier here I think, As Rob has pointed out we do have The National Aquarium here, Opens Next Week Check out the link below http://www.nationalaquarium.co.nz/about/aquarium.htm Napier does have the biggest Aquarium membership in NZ, Beat That Auckland On top of that we have the 2nd Sunniest climate (behind Nelson)though I find that hard to believe as every time I have been there its raining and cold Caryl, I am sure you will get your invitation to the conference sometime soon, we will even try to put on some sunshine for you Who Else Will be coming to the Conference this year? Cheers /Bruce

Hi Have a look a the below link http://www.maf.govt.nz/biosecurity/bord ... -02-06.htm Yes the importer does wear the cost of importation, Vet Checks etc, Quarantine facilities also have to be MAF approved, which would be a considerable cost There are a few importers in NZ, 3 or 4 maybee Most fish sold in NZ are imported, very little breeding of comercial quanities is done here, hardly enough to supply Aquarium society members really, and not a great variety Hope this helps Best Regards Bruce
