    aqua day

Did anyone buy anything at Tauranga Animates?
  2. I have always found that my sev;s prefer to have company of their own. I have a pair now who have just decided to start breeding (attempting). They have turned the tank into a battle field. MY female lacks the red markings on the face, male has the red markings and longer finnage
  3. some practice glass?
  4. Thanks Brom2, yeah it has quite a few pups, will do some reading about them today. Yeah Mark the brom thats in there is a tillandsia, just did a search for what the plant was The tank size is 75cmx50cmx35cm hopefully it will be big enough to keep all of the frogs inside over winter, then in spring I will have them out into a pond... The plants seem to be going well, I haven't used a mister for them. There appears to be a bit of moisture in there, with condensation in the mornings..suppose it is just the plant respiration etc I really want to plant the tank out, bt in doing that I know we wont see the frogs very often.
  5. I have used the powder which you can get from the supermarket - one of the other posters was right in saying it smelt nice...I am unsure how effective it was because I moved out of the house. In this new place I have had to bomb, used 2 cans which did a smallish 3 bedroom house. Was very effective. I just gladwrapped the tanks, and then threw over some blankets. Aired the house out for about an hour before I came back into the house, then just waited overn ight for the tanks. Good luck
  6. Thanks I don't know much about keeping bromeliads, will have to look into it because the flower has lost its bright pink colouring. The frogs love the plant because they can sit themselves down inside the vase bits of the plant. I am glad that I decided to keep the frogs inside, because they are a hoot to watch. I plan on re-doing the tank with more flora soonishly.

    Loaches and Ich

Hey Stella....bummer about the mudfish. I treated one of my bigger loaches last night who was clamping its fin with a slight brush of ich. I used double the recommended dose of Wunder Tonic (methylene, malachite green, acriflavine, quinine) but only kept the fish in there for a couple of hours. It's back to usual self now racing around the tank with the other 3 loaches
  8. Green Gold bell's I think they are called. We have 7 in the tank...it'll be ok while they are small, I plan on moving some out to a pond once they start growing. I'll keep a few inside because they are cool to watch.
  9. Oh crud! My first attempt at posting pictures and it hasn't worked...can anyone help please? I have read the 'how to' instructions in The NZ Fishroom website part.... but it aint working for me
  10. Well stayed up late last night getting our frogs new home sorted. Its all done, not as good as I had hoped it to be (rushed it a little bit really)... Hope I attach the images correctly... Mod to the rescue Bill. Thanks Bill

    ponds

WELLLLLLL....I'll be making the pond so inviting they wont wanna leave. I'm going to convert one of my bigger tanks into something for a couple of them, so if the rest of the m in the pond take off into the great unkonwn, then I will have some as backup.

    ponds

thanks everyone! Luckily I like the colour green, so if the pond is green it is all ok. I was worried about mozzies because we have quite a few around here anyway (without a water mass in my yard), so don't want to aggrivate the situation. I guess I have a busy weekend ahead of me!

    ponds

Thanks Caryl. So I don't need any type of mechanical water movement thingy either? I am using a bath for the deeper part of the pond. I hope to plumb up the bath so I can make water changes when required, will extend the pond further with marginal plants etc... Feeling like a pleb

    Best air pumps?

thanks cricket. I have aquaone canisters and really happy with how they perform....so might give their pumps a go too. Cheers
  16. Hi everyone. I want to purchase an 1 x air pump that will be for 2 x 250L tanks which are sitting side by side. I have had pumps in the past - just the budget cheapos which end up rattling and walking all over the tank top. I would like to look for a more substantial one, and would like to hear from anyone out there on brands that perform well. Cheers
  17. maybe you should find some back ups so you can replace the dearly departed and then your daughter wont know the diff?...hope you find out what is going on
  18. how much should a newly transformed frog be eating? A couple of my tadpoles have become really lean...but I think they are not far off their front set of legs breaking through, so not long til they are frogs...the others are still fat. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what 1 frog should be eating daily. I have the fat tadpoles eating lettuce, and cat biscuits. They are also partial to my cichlids pellets
  19. thanks Evil, I probably should have done a search. Cheers also for the other information richms. Will sort the bloody fleas out on monday!
  20. Seems Bay of Plenty is a great place for flea breeding. THis is the first time I have encountered the little blighters like this and need to put a stop to the breeding cycle before they take over! Only problem is flea bombs are not so good for fish tanks. Has anyone out there bombed their place with fish tanks. On the bomb can it reckons turn off filters and cover well. I was planning on gladwrapping the fish tanks and keeping the filters. The only ones that I would turn off are the sponge filters running off the air pumps. can anyone give me some helpful hints. Cheers
  21. I scoop out with a net and transfer it to my severums tank and they demolish it
  22. To be on the safe side I might just use some water and filter media from one of my other unaffected tanks. Although the suspect tank only have a few guppy and 3 dwarf cichlids in it.
  23. Thanks everyone. I have syphoned out as much as I could without doing a 100% water change. I will do the blackout method while I try and source the medication. Anyone in BOP able to give me the name of an aquatic friendly vet who sells the requires meds? Cheers
