    Dying guppies

Thought i would add my bit to this. I have guppies in bare bottom tank with java moss and sponge filters. I have only ever bought guppies once and from the same person about 7months ago. All was going well until about amonth ago. Now there are alot of them flashing, and looking like they are wasting. Water is all normal. Some look like their gills are distended. I have started treating water with something for parasites. i don't know what else to do. I have some of the same guppies in another tank with a siamese fighter and they are fine..popping offspring out. any thoughts on what it could be?

    Dwarf Cockatoos

Hey cool Mr Ed and banaro. My ones were very timid and only started coming out when I put my pair of rams in the tank. A couple of the cockatoos look a little amaciated. they are eating, I have been giving them flake and fzn brine shrimp. I have set up four separate areas with caves so there are plenty of hiding places. I thnk the rams are ready to spawn again. Might try moving them before they do.

    Dwarf Cockatoos

Got my 5 today. They are a little smaller than I thought they would be. They are in a tank all to themselves, and if i sit quietly I will catch them coming out from cover to have a wee look around. They are taking fzn brine shrimp which is cool cause I thought I would have trouble with them feeding. Now just to wait and watch to see how they turrn out.

hey groovey. I'm getting fish from same person. oooh I can't wait to see what they are like. What size tank do you have for your ones? Did you know you were getting a male and female?

I have 5 coming my way from aucks...I'm really excited. I have done all the internet research , pretty sure I'm ready to go when they get here. does anyone on here have any experience with them?
  6. The weird long things are fins, very sensitive ones. Have the males built nests? Males will be really ugly towards others when they are building their nest. They ease up a little when they allow the female to come over and release eggs...after that he goes back to being nasty, and can kill the female if she is left in there. The soft drink bottle for isolation container is a good one.
  7. still 70-90 little swimmers. they are great to watch, if one gets separated from the rest it drops to the ground and waits for the rest of the tribe to come back around. I can;t wait until they get a bit bigger
  8. ONe of mine has the same after my Rams shooed him away from their fry.
  9. I would think that the tank is too small for all those fish. You could pick up a cheap 'fish' bin from warehouse or mitre10 which will give you more volume for the fish. i have used a large plastic garbage bin while waitng for a tank to be repaired. had the heater , filter and air pump going in it.
  10. Alright, BN, Gourami, and Guppys have been moved out, the parents and fry are day tripping all over the tank now. Will have to think about where the fighter can go. Think he will be ok with swords... YAY so cool i have fry
  11. everyone's keeping their distance. I may move the BN and guppys if they look like they are getting too game and hanging around. The gourami and s fighter dont leave their territories on the top.
  12. Yes thanks to you. Will have a look for some fzn bbs. Other fish in tank is siamese fighter, 2xdwarf gourami, bn, and guppies. Parents are great guarding them, i had wondered why there was an unusual amiount of aggression in the tank.
  13. I posted several weeks back about my blue rams laying eggs, and then the disappearance of the eggs - the parents ate them?? Welllll.......... Have just noticed hundreds of little fry. They aare about 2mm body length and 4mm in total. FReaked out because I thought the parents were eating them, but they are picking up the stragglers and spitting them back into the group. Is there anything special I should be doing now? Don;t have brine shrimp and to be honest do they need it they seem to be getting on ok with whatever they are picking up in the tank. Should I pull them out and put them in a smaller tank with sponge filter...or just leave it to the parents? Yipee what a great day! :bounce:
  14. after the sudden death of a couple of my clown loaches last week, I have been reduced to 2...they seem quite fine and are very active. I will be getting several more as finances allow because a large troop of clowns looks fab.

    How heavy

Why not put a few longish screws through the back of the unit into the shelf? Would that help make it a little more secure?

The ones that I was looking at were only about 4cm, quite little and quite plain.

oh they look lovely. the ones that I was thinking about purchasing did not look like that at all. They looked more grey all over with out the patterning. Hmmm so I am in two minds now. Cause I have a couple of gold sevs, I thinking maybe green sevs. Sevs are less demanding in terms of water chemistry etc

Can anyone who has, or has had these be able to give me their thoughts on them. Have found 2 in a local shop and I'm a little interested but they are costly so want to get some background on them first. Have done the google search, looking for NZ knowledge. Ta
  23. I had kept some filter media intact, and it would have only be power off for 30 minutes. The rest of the gravel etc was given a light vac as it was emptied, but not washed in other water. The tank was set up for a couple of days prior to fish going back in, and they had been in there a week when they up and died. The remaining fish are looking better, I had to get another clownloach today to keep the remaining one happy (wouldn;t want it karking it cause it was lonely). I will definately take more care now.
  24. I moved house and had to set up tanks again. I have done exactely the same before with no ill effect, but this time I didn't put plants back into the tank because they were looking tatty. I guess that was enough tomake things toxic...unless it is something else
  25. Thanks everyone. Going into emergency mode cause the sev's, GT and BN are still swimming...need to get things right for them.
