  1. Hi, two of my large opaline gouramis seem to have red marks/scales just in front of their side fins. What should I do? I have some wonder tonic, would that help? Thanks A D
  2. I hear the eheim ones are real quiet. (but also real expensive).
  3. Ive had some real problems with elite heaters, I had two 300w's but the seals popped out around the body/glass connection. I had them replaced but the new ones are now starting to do the same thing.
  4. I shoud have put a comma before the "right" Try a larger sponge cut so that there is a section to the size of the hole but the rest is very big so that there is more surface area touching the water in the tank.
  5. Ive got the bigger version and have never had problems, you are using the sponge right?
  6. I'm afraid he's gone. Although the fungi stuff cleared his scales underneath were bad. I found him this morning. Thanks for all your help. I suppose it was just to late.
  7. how do you make the ice cream container float? How do you dose wunder tonic? Thanks for all your help
  8. Its not as bad as that with pokey out scales. Could I just wunder tonic the entire tank?
  9. Could I use a bucket as a hospital tank with the spare filter etc. I have also noticed that his side fins are only the spiney bits with nothing in between. what would this be?
  10. I dont really have the facilities to seperate him, I suggested the salt because I have some.
  11. So what I have to put it in another tank? Could I use salt in the whole tank?
  12. I have an Opaline Gourami (about 8cm) that has a swelling in its body about 1 cm roung just behind the fin on its side, this is about 5mm high. Then Behind this is what looks like cotton wool stuck to the fish. The lump looks red under the cotton wool (the overlap only a little. What is it and what should I do?
  13. The things we have say rcd and they have a test button and an on off switch.
  14. Our whole house is covered by to rcds mounted on the switchboard, I know this because once when I turned the tank on it tripped it. (I think the surge must have caused it) Half of the houses power failed. These obviosly turn back on after power cut.
  15. I get all my stuff through brightsparks, they order from wherever you want. A serial interface will be so much easier
  16. You could have the ON off thing but have it so that if it strays by .1 degree from set value the heater starts then when it gets back to set value it turns off. That way it would be accurate to .1 degrees. You could also use a really low powered element. Where would you put the temp sensor?
  17. I wouldn't have thought using pulse width modulation would be suitable for a heater. Why not set a normal heater to max and use a relay or get one of those remote controlled mains switch from bunnings or jaycar and modify it. That would avoid the deadly 240v work.
  18. Get the serial lcd backpack unit from mailtronics. Are you a brightsparks member?
  19. I think that its kind of doesnt solve the problem. It wont result in any less plugs, and is quite expensive. For that money I would have thought the more versitile sump would be better. Though that is only my opinion (I have never used either system).
  20. I have used aqua one filters and Havent liked them, they seem to be poorly made and rattley. (this was NOT a 1200). I havent used fluval but from what I have seen the are better made and higher quality.
  21. I would buy each thing seperatley so if one dies you dont have to replace the lot. Also you may not want the uv on all the time, (bulbs only go so far).
  22. Oh, I didnt read it properly, I would definetly go for the FX5
  23. I have had 3 elite heaters, never had a problem with falure but the seals did come off, they sort of worked there way down the glass. I took them back and got replacements which are fine.
  24. Is that filter like the aqua one 2400? I think it is, I have the 2200 and think its kind of rubbish, the quality sucks, both handles have broken off and upon closer inspection there was very little holding them in the first place. I would definetly not buy another aqua one filter (or similar) and would probably pick an Fx5 or Ehiem Classic.
