  1. pretty short memory you have, that may put us up to 7th haha and you didn't watch the bangladesh tour but they may go ahead of us and keep us in 8th?? currently ranked: 8th out of 10 test teams (below us are zimbabwe and bangladesh who white washed us last month) 8th out of 13 ODI teams (3 of the 5 teams below us are ireland, netherlands and kenya) 8th out of 16 teams 20/20 (teams below us include power houses such as scotland, afganistan, ireland, kenya and canada) i think that is pretty definitive.
  2. are you meaning black caps as in our national, under achieving cricket team?
  3. Nice work well done. I have rock piles and have found the tropheus move more substrate than Malawians. When I added the rocks I pushed them down into the substrate to the bottom panel so if they do move all the substrate the rocks won't move. I use river rocks which slide around more the course surface stone and have never had an issue with my rock piles.

    Malawi Zebras

when mixing species from different regions the challenge you have is to keep all the fish healthy and happy. I don't know anything about the barbs or parrots, what conditions do they like and what you feeding? there could be a common food to suit them both.

what are they living with? how are the water parameters with the wood?
  6. That is awesome, well done.that's a good example of how to stock an African tank, African soup.
  7. Sounds to me like its an issue with your browser, what you running? I had that with another website and I did updates for shock wave and flash player and it worked
  8. yeah close enough, was just giving the initial poster some more info so they can also understand how to calculate volume accurately in case they need to at some point. for smaller tanks it can be an even larger difference, for this 216L tank by the time the substrate goes in and if rock piles were added the volume could easily be as low as 150L which is more than 25% less than the overall volume.
  9. also understand that 216 is the total outside size of the tanks volume. If you measure the water that is actually in it when operating it will be a lot less because of substrate and other items in the tank, the glass volume and the level of the water. if it is 8mm glass and you fill it to 3cm from the top of the tank the gross amount of water will be around 28L less so that makes it 188L inside volume then minus the volume of ornaments, substrate, rockwork or timber etc that you put into the tank so it does reduce pretty quickly.

i hope you consider getting a top quality heater to replace it as your far more likely to not have the same issue over again if you do. I know the jager's have a fuse type wire that if they do stick on for what ever reason it burns out so it isn't likely that they will ever cook your fish. I know if a heater was to fail i'd rather it failed off than on as i'll notice of the tank is getting cool when i feed and the fish can handle that better than high temps.
  12. nice setup Lee, hope all is awesome over there

What a shame, what sort of heater?
  14. once the tank is established i think it'll be fine to keep 25 africans in that tank. i think that as i used to have around 40 in a tank that size, i had around 2000lph of filtration though. Once it's established use a test kit to monitor the levels of nitrates etc each day, i think you'll find you won't need to do water changes every three days.
  15. i use a cf1200 to filter my 300L tank which at times has had 40 odd tropheus juvies so there is plenty of potential for a single canister.
  16. having them in the same corner/end with the the spraybar aiming down the length of the tank is the most efficient way to filter your tank i have found and the best for getting the filter to suck up all solid waste as well. The water flow goes along the top of the tank then drops at the end and returns back to the suction pipe and as long as you arrange your tank scaping items so it doesn't trap the waste it works perfectly. My tank is 2.0m long, i have a suction pipe and spray bar at each end but the spraybars are facing the front of the tank so that creates a barrel roll type flow at each end. there is no way i could set it up to run perfectly so i added a wave maker that creates flow down the length of the tank and that works very well for moving solid waste to either end where the suction pipes are.
  17. the circulation or direction of flow in the tank will have no effect on the flow rate of a canister. If the canister bucket is full flow is effected by head height first then clogged filter pads or piping. Also make sure it is primed correctly, open the priming cap a little to purge any air that may be in it.
  18. I'm out near the nook at whangarei heads which is about thirty minutes drive from the kings gate. Time is pretty tight on a Wednesday as I have fire brigade training
  19. I have two canisters, each spray bar is on the back wall flowing the water toward the front of the tank. I aim the flow up toward the surface, if your flow is to much drill out the spray bar holes to 4.5mm which will reduce the intensity of the flow and stop the holes clogging up.
  20. i would do that but wouldn't add any more until i have seen how that works. I wouldn't add any more species than that, quite small tank footprint.
  21. if those are the outside dimensions the gross volume of your tank is a fraction over 181L. Take off the glass, ornaments/rock work in the tank and less the volume it would take to fill it to the brim so it's likely is actually 160L. what fish are you wanting to add?
  22. If you want help, how about helping us with some info. Tank dimensions, what type of fish and what size are they.
