I wouldn't rush into the idea of Gill Flukes just yet, just check your water parameters and go from there... first

Can't believe I left the following two out of my list... after listening to them yesterday I thought gee, how could I have forgotten them... 3 Doors Down - This Time... especially... Three Days Grace - Take Me Under, Burn

Oh and the signs of Gill Flukes in the lot of Gold Saum that we purchased was really noticeable.. they were very dark red around the gill plates, and very rapid breathing, like they were struggling to breathe. 3 days treatment of Prazi and you wouldn't think they are the same fish.. 8)

It can be irritation.... If there are many doing it tho, I would give the tank a water change for starters and see where you go from there. For Gill Flukes I heard that a quick salt bath helps, yet we use Prazi... and it has worked wonders. Just have a look around on the net and see what you can find on symptoms and treatments.. there is some good reading out there on alternative treatments etc I wouldn't panic too much, the odd one or two of mine have done it in the past, and it has just been a random scrape on the bottom, if it is rather a few doing it tho I would definately look into it, just keep an eye and just make sure it isn't possibly the starting of itch either... 8) If you have had a sudden ph drop it could possibly be causing it too...

Oh definately 1 of either of a filter those sizes on a tank that size... we have our 2 Aquis on our 8fter which is 900 litres :lol:

Yeap we run the Aquis 2400's and they run wickedly.... huge flow too.. 8) I still reckon the more filtration the better... Let us know what you decide in the way of Africans, always neat hearing about others starting a new tank.

I saw all of them, there was some pretty heavy stuff on some of those Ross Kemp docos I also saw the documentary on there of the Aryan Brotherhood.. based in the US Prisons...

It's only as over hyped as the mob made it, the producers etc involved are the ones informed of how things are, they don't know any different :lol: I found it down right pathetic... pretty tame in NZ compared to some parts of the world.. infact tame is an understatement :-? :lol:

Well you can have good powerful filtration for your tank (not so much so that your fish are having difficulty swimming or going around like a whirlpool or hitting side of tank)... Some people have used a powerhead in the tank to bump up water flow a bit... we have put a powerhead in our mbuna setups and they just love the flow.. darting in and out of rock work... they thrive. What species of Malawi are you thinking of having, might pay to do some searching and see what you really like in the way of fish.

Malawi like to have a good water flow... especially your mbuna species.

Ok, well there are a range of different filters.... we keep alot of Africans, we run Aqua One very big canisters on some of our tanks, and Eheim also... Depends on how much you want to pay for filtration? I would definately run two canisters tho, more filtration and the bonus with that is.. if one needs something doing to it, you will always have the other one as backup... we have two huge canisters running on our big African set up in lounge, and they get rostered cleans. There are cheaper range filters out there, Jebo etc, (of which we have owned and have parted with most)... Aqua One, have found they do a great job. Fluval, I don't think much of their filtration powerwise personally... and Eheim, ours crank it.

Apparently it is put in place to encourage people to start at reserve so people see if they have a chance of being able to purchase what is on offer or something.... yes it is good in that sense as I must say I don't like timewasters or dreamers lurking around auctions or asking what the reserve is etc... But TM does try and rustle up extra fees every possible way now :roll: :lol:

Yeah I notice the extra 25c fee now in general auctions... if you set the start price lower than your set reserve you are now going to be stung a 25cent charge.... :-? This starts from the 1st July this year. I find TM has got majorly greedy since it was sold, costs creeping in here and there.. :-?

I have seen all of the Ross Kemp ones on You Tube last year.... there are some very far out places in the world and some of those places are not hyped up, as I have had family visit the same areas... and woooahh makes harlem look like a playground... Not sure about the Timor one tho Ryan... but the others are very full on, slum parts of Jamaica etc The NZ I watched too, and it's ridiculous, and an embarassment to NZ, with the behaviour, some of you will be very grossed out on what is said on it.... :-? :-? They can be known to take small tank mates during night time... ie tetras etc, this happens usually when they reach maturity. They are nocturnal... they aren't fussed with bright light at all. They suit more of a larger species community tank. Nothing too aggressive tho. In Aquarium they will accept a wide range of food, from pellet foods, through to frozen foods such as mysis, larger shrimps (finely cut up) etc... Best to feed them at night time if they are in a community based set up so you know they are getting a good share of food.
