Had the pleasure of visiting Spinedocs setup last night. Spinedoc has descided to go easy first time around, and has setup the tank in the garage. He is setting it all up with good quality gear, with plans of re-using all of his equipment when he moves the tank into the house. I don't have any photos, but maybee he will post some. Great to see another tank in Wellington, nice to know that our numbers are increasing steadly. Cheers Pie

Never cleaned it. There is not much filter wool (is more coarse than filter wool, more like a scouring pad) so can't see it making much difference. Pie

It wouldn't be fluidised if it was in a sock (would be sockodised). There is a filter plate and some filter wool (coarse & stiff) mounted in the top to avoid any media from being about to be dragged up and back into the sump. There is a sock of carbon in there in the photo that is no longer there. Pies

OK here is my plan. I would like to setup a small (nano) tank, for breeding clowns/snails. I have the tank, hood, light, water and rock. What I need is a skimmer (small berlin or simlar). If anyone has a skimmer they are willing to give away, can they let me know, airstone driven, cyclone, anything at all will be fine. Cheers Pies

APS chemicals in Auckland are friendly to the fish people. Many of us get Kalk, magnesium etc from them in 5kg-25kg lots. Pie

Will be as good as. The reason you don't need the solinoid is they way they are designed they leech much less c02 into the water than other types of reactors. Pie

How will they work without the regulator? Do you mean without the solinoid? I have the Korralin 4000. I don't use a solinoid as per Korralins instructions. Expensive reactors, but well made and highly reccomended. One note, there is a general feeling that they are overrated, so i've read your better off picking 1 bigger than you need. Mine is way overkill for my tank anway, YMMV. Pie

Bruce - I have some great photos of Lionfish gardens, with Lionfish hunting in packs. We've dived with Tranquility Island several times. I've seen dozens of sharks, rays, eels & snakes. Its all good as far as I am concerned. Fiji - Maybee 12 sharks swimming around us. Pie

Replaced the O-Ring with an decent O-Ring so the lid stopped popping off. Then built a water cpreader in the bottom under the plate for more even distrobution, then adding a top plate (egg crate) and 50mm pipe converted into a strained to stop any of the media being exited out the top of the reactor. I see the design of these units has now been updated so water flows from the side not the top. I'd love to meet the genius behind this top pressure system, he has some explaining to do. After mods works a treat, all media is held in suspension, and is FULL of mysidd shirmp too Pie

Control - Some still use Ozone. I don't but there is no doubt positives to it (and negitives). Very popular in MUD systems in the UK (yellow water from the MUD). Steve Weasts tank certainly looks the part, and he is active on Reefcentral, so good for him. 1 thing he does very well is he gets GREAT photos taken. 10/10, something to aspire too. Pie

When I was shoping for a dehumidifier the Consumer Mag said 'make sure its got a drain for convienant plumbing'. Which I did, so far seems a pointless exercise, may come in handy 1 day, but hard to imagine it really. Got the sump ordered today, should have in next week. This is the 3rd to last piece of the puzzle for the sump room project. Also getting the collar for the display tommorow. Been a long time comming, and am looking forward to having the tanks lights etc hidden from view. Also got the 1" sea swirls, which I plan to put on tommorow night. Pieola.

Keen diver. Have dived through NZ, the pacific, Indo, Malay & Thai. Hope to add Palau & Bourneo to the list in the next 12 months. May head back to Fiji in 2 months if things pan out. Best diving, hard to pick it: Poor knights (particulary any of the arches) on the north westen end, Tioman/Tekek in Malay, Vanuatu (Lovo). Pie
