  4. Hope everyone is having a great day :bounce: :bounce: I have finally got some pics up in the Saltwater members area. Not many fish in there right now and pretty boring otherwise. But still good to look at the few lifeforms in there. I was so angry with myself  when we had the disease go through the tank (mid febuary) and I lost over $700 of fish. Have learned a big lesson and feel a lot more comfortable with knowing why it happened and how to prevent it from happening again. As the tank progresses and the reef tank starts taking shape I will post more pics. Eve

  7. Sorry for your loss I know how you feel but on a smaller scale.
  8. I have decided if I want my Anemone :bounce: To take everyones advice and get better lighting for my Aqua One AR850 tank. I will take it slow but would like to get the lighting part sorted first. What can anyone recommend. Do they make a kit that i can turn the existing hood into something that will be ok for the lights. Is there a replacement hood I can get that will fit this tank. Is it easy to DIY something for it instead. These are what I have in the current front part of hood. 1x25w Sera Actinic Blue 1x 25w Atman tri-power 15000k 1x25w Atman super light 10k They are all T5s Any advice would be greatly appreciated P.S this tank is not going to be filled with much other than fish and an anemone and maybe one soft coral(then again maybe not). The future reef tank will have everything in it .

    Adding fish

Thanks for the advice Suphew I am now starting to think the first anemone was part of the reason the tank fell over first time. It pays to get advice on these things, as the LFS said it would be ok ($180) I really want an anemone :bounce: :bounce: So I will wait and see what happens with the tank luckily I now have backup tank and a big tank in the making that hopefully will be ready sometime this year that I will turn into a reef tank. How much special lighting do Anemones need I currently have 1x25w Sera Actinic Blue 1x 25w Atman tri-power 15000k 1x25w Atman super light 10k They are all T5s

    Adding fish

As soon as I master the task of taking tank photos I will post some in the saltwater members tanks( hopefully this weekend). I have orderd a lens for my camera for close up shots. The tank looks a bit empty right now but The water is so crystal clear it is beautiful, I am in the process of adding 2 more fish, once they have passed the QT stage and are then in the tank for a month and/or I am happy with the tests and the water is crystal clear I will add an anemone. Than in another month I may add another 2 fish.

    Adding fish

Whatever you do, don't do what i did when my tank completed its first cycle and the readings were perfect I added 2 fish that are hardy and compatable. A few days later I added another 2 then a week later another 2. I didnt give the tank enough time to adjust to the first 2 and I had a mess to sort out. The readings went through the roof. Took a lot of time and water changes to try and get it right. In the middle of all this I had a whitespot infection in the tank. Lost my favourite fishs Learnt a very expensive lesson  With any tank take your time, patience, patience, patience I purchased the Paul Talbot DVD Your instructional Marine Aquarium Guide For a beginner I found it very informative. And have taken Ideas from friends (very informative fish people) this forum and the DVD My tank is now beautiful to look at again with very healthy fish and one mushroom  :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

    New Skimmer

Looks just like a bought one :bounce: :bounce: My partner has been fiddling with ideas on making a skimmer. have yet to see anything other than him telling me, we need one, he will make one I would love to just go out and buy one, but alas $$ are stopping me. Eve
  14. My clown did the same thing after I had to remove its anemone from the tank.
  15. Thanks for the welcome everyone I am enjoying my wondering through the forums, having my first tank reminds me of when i got my first computer. I didnt know much at first but after spending too much money to fix problems I caused. I decided to learn how not to cause the problems  . heres hoping having a marine tank will give me just as much enjoyment and easy enough to look after.
  16. Big hello to everyone I have been looking through your forum for just over a month and decided to join. Better late than never I'm a Marine Newbie and started my first tank end of November last year. I have been over everyones tanks. My tank will be mainly marine fish with an anemone. I have the Aqua One AR850 tank In my tank I have 2 Percula Clownfish with a nice Bubble Anemone to play in, A nice little young Blue Tang, Yellow sailfin Tang, Royal Blue Pygmy Angelfish, Purple Firefish Goby, Rock Skipper, 2 Cleaner Shrimp. Once the bank account recovers from this adventure I may look more into the Reef side and set up another tank. I have taken on board a few things mentioned in these forums, especially the water temp. The temp in my tank was getting a bit warm  even with 2 fans going in the room, so I removed the top/front panel from the casing where the lights are, now the temp stays down below 28 deg. Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend Love the pics everyong is posting in here I will post some of my own soon :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
