  1. Aparently you can get 850 w gennies for like $150 or something from bunnings? may pay to have a looksey
  2. Only thing with having a gas heater to keep the room warm would be the amount of Co2 it would put into the air, making your tanks drop in pH and losing o2..... just a thought
  3. i was trying to find a map that Wok posted a little while back and it had the exact location marked on it but then had a dinner break so davidb bet me too it  I just took a butterfly net (about 10-15cm diameter sorta thing) and it caught them fine. Every scoop you get 1 part Molly, 99 parts Mud so its a mission to seperate them lol Take spare clothes, buckets, Nets, and Bags... oh and old shoes and Socks to wear in the mud.... trust me, you need them!
  4. Sand and Wood both look amazing. Well done. You gunna have crypts in there? they do well in low light... Looking good!
  5. I think that the only ones left are the mollies at Tokanuu. Went their earlier this year with some others from here and we caught some. Awesome fun. Mine adapted to their new tank well. the mud is very hot underneath so you need to wear shoes otherwise you get burnt in some places (i know i did, silly me only wore socks!) and you get very muddy, but other than that is great fun and i fully reccomend you go there!
  6. the person in CHCH selling them is cichlid7
  7. Awesome setup adodge!!! Better than seperate jars for sure! Fishtv that bbs hatching method is about right, Theres different ways of getting them out of the container so you'll have to experiment and see what works best for you. As Adodge said though, try to keep the mixture warmish and they will hatch faster
  8. Yea i thought about that but the mother reckoned that the carpet underneath would go mouldy... Ill probably do it once i get a central heater in there though... Thanks!
  9. Could you put a pic on here? or If youre not sure how you could email it to me and i could chuck it on for you....
  10. Would lionheads go with Brichardi?
  11. Get a 200L barrel (one of them big blue ones) and sit ot beside or near your tank. Fill it up with water the night before, and chuck in a heater and large powerhead/pump. In the morning you will have nice, heated, de-chlorinated water. All you need to do is syphon the water out of the tank (whichever way you choose) and then chuck a hose on the outlet of the pump in the barrel and let it pump the water into your tank.... Easy as that, no stress to the fish either
  12. Just read the whole thread start to finish and it is a very nice setup there. some interesting ideas/ways of doing things. I like the sump tower. He has alot of cool equipment doesnt he  Can you tell im bored?
  13. After 3 days, your doing pretty good to have them come out at night and get food. Most fish will take at least a week to become a bit friendlier, and alot of fish take AGES to stop being shy....
  14. Woulda been just as good
  15. If it looks exactly like the pick chazza put up then its a pictus. Theres a BIG difference between the pic you put up and that one. which one does it look like?
  16. 'Other' side of tank is now sitting happily at 22, which is fine. I have 200L's of 24 degree water in my barrel too :grins: Water change time! Gotta move my cube tank into my new bedroom too Im definately looking into heat pumps still. SOOOOO much easier
  17. If you are rushed with time already, go with the e.yellows. discus, especially younger ones need alot of care and attention (like a kid i guess) and need water changes at least every two days, but preferably every day.
  18. Put simply, electric yellows will me much easier and less time consuming to keep But discus rule
  19. Il be there!!!! ............... hopefully
  20. I dont see why it wouldnt work, as long as you keep the heat in well enough..... You will need some room to store eggs too
  21. Alan, that is a possibility that i will definately look into in the nearish future.... Subz, yea, S&%* happens
  22. Its pretty hard to 'safely' have a sump that is quiet, simply because the easiest and safest way to get the water from the tank to the sump is through an overflow. overflows = air + water... air and water entering the sump is always going to be noisy.... If you fully seal the sump (so there is no air exchange at all in it) then its possible to keep the co2 in there, but the water falling down the pipe with air will make all the co2 escape anyway.... Even if you dont add co2, your fish waste will still be making it so you will want to save as much as possible. so much easier to go with a canister filter and hide a heater down the back of the tank behind some driftwood or something. or you could go the whole hog and buy one of those expensive canisters that have a built in heater..... depends if you want to buy a filter or put a deposit on a house
