  1. Fronts are too big AND too expensive  Demasoni next i think.... I have read that you need like 10+ to keep peaceful. what about a pair, M & F? Just in the planning stages ATM
  2. No time wasting! they were out and about having a munch before! Tryed to get a couple pics but their tank is very dimly lit ATM so they didnt turn out great Oh and BTW, these were bred by no other than billaney himself  P.S. I think im starting to get hooked. Contemplating scrapping my ideas for another planted tank and getting some demasoni instead.... WHAT ARE YOU THINKING ROGAN?!?!?!?!
  3. Minimum temp im not sure of realy but id say Absolute min of 20-21. Not realy fussy about tankmates, my ones are crazy fish that boost around the tank so no not slow moving, tend to swim on all levels of the tank but mainly middle, yes id say happier in groups but you can have 2 or 3, yer they will interbreed but thats not realy a big deal i dont think, As with most livebearers its best to have 3 or so Fems to each Male HTH
  4. Went over to Marks this morning and picked up my 3 Brichardi.... they are wicked, hiding in the rocks ATM but what can i expect? will try get some pics when they come out.....
  5. 2 x 150W halides over a 220L tank is possible but you would need a good co2 setup, and some good specialist ferts like PMDD.... On the other hand, 1 x 150W halide on a 220L wouldnt realy work either, as im guessing that your tank would be a 4 footer? and one halide wouldnt give enough light spread, because as a rule of thumb you should have one 150W halide per 60 x 60 area.... Have a read here and you should be able to find out heaps. Any other questions just ask!
  6. Its always a proud moment when you realise you have your first fry from a certain species! I had a pair of kribs in a large community tank with about 20 odd other fish, and i just left them too it when they had young. It was an extensively planted tank, and the parents just led the 'kids' around through the plants etc picking away at the leftovers etc. They also defended them if something came close, but never did any harm to anything. i ended up with about 20 left in the end, the others would have been eaten, sucked into the filter, or whatever.... not a huge survival rate but its not like i wanted heaps! Good luck with them. if it a well setup tank with lots of other fish and stuff their should be enough crud on the bottom for them to pick away at
  7. I took this pic today at Wonderworld aquariums in rotorua and thought it was pretty cool so id better share It didnt realy like me
  8. Yep, as markoshark said, make sure the bins are kept at temp, and have lots of circulation. The rock will be fine in the bins, and the corals will be sweet in the bins for a little while as long as you have light on them, so id just chuck the rock in, and make sure the rock with corals on it is at the top. As for the fish, you could either put them into another bin with a heater and powerhead, or if the rock bin is big enough (and theres enough spare space for them) then you could just put them in there. Id aim to not have everything in the bins for more than 24 hours though.....

    Rockwork

Lime will just raise the pH probably, just like using limestone in your tank.... The new rock probably wont affect your tank at all though as the pH will already be high. Looks good BTW man!
  10. Welcome! I saw in another post of yours that you were after info on the tauranga Club. Its 'Proper' name is the Western Bay of Plenty Aquarium and Pond society. We meet once a month, on the last saturday of that month. Every second meeting is an Outing, so we go do something fun like go to auckland and look at their fish shops, or go to other peoples homes and look at their tanks etc. Tomorrow we are going to Wonderworld Aquariums in Rotorua to check out the fish there. If you would like more info feel free to PM me.
  11. Yea i know what you havent done Paul..... Shown us some pics!!! Lol, well done on getting the pair, FM's are awesome fish!
  12. That Lotus didnt happen to come from me did it? Tanks looking wicked BTW Caryl, Well done!
  13. Yep, please leave the fish in the tank when doing a water change. Syphon out half the water, then pour the new water back in. As markoshark said, taking the fish out each time will just stress them... heaps, and they will eventually die
  14. Wait let me get this right, you take your fish out when you change the water??? NO NO NO NO NO! Leave the fish in the tank when changing the water.... And dont clean your filter whilst cycling too
  15. I had them on one tank the other week until i broke it down and moved it. i just ignored them, dunno where they came from, but they were sitting on the tiger lotus leaves floating on the top I dont think they will do any harm but im not sure
  16. ahh i see, thanks guys
  17. Sorry i know pretty much nothing about these fish but in the vid it looks like she is laying the eggs, he is fertilisingthem, then she is picking up with mouth her to hold, is that correct? I know that thats how they breed (mouthbrooders) but im not sure thats exactly what they were doing
  18. For $900 id say thats a steal! buy it! Not the best equipment, but for 9 hundy what do you expect? You could probably get an alright skimmer for 300 odd, and the lighting is probably sufficient for alot of corals, softys and Lps, dunno about sps tho, as im not an expert at all!!! EDIT: just re-read auction. it has 3 x 150W halides so it would be sweet to keep pretty much any kind of coral!
  19. Yep boiling them does help a little bit, but doesnt usually fully sink them. This piece has been in this tank for ages and it was sunken, but i took it out a few weeks ago when re-arranging some fish, and never bothered to put it back in so i let it dry out a bit. It wont take long for it to sink again.... All the tanks now have fish in them, but most are just on holiday whilst there 'homes' get built Im going to rotorua this weekend, and im gunna have a bit of money to spend so will hopefully come back with something exciting Heh, yer, you could call it that Its sitting there pretty firmly. What you cant realy see in the pic is the flat top on the DW just where its sitting, and also its a very flat rock.... IMO, if it fell, it wouldnt be big enough to cause any damage anyway....
  20. Heh, i just won an auction on Trademe for 10 kgs or coral sand, so i can add a little bit more too the tank... guess what i got it for.... $2.50  plus $6 postage, SCORE! I will be getting the fish this weekend, so updates after then!
  21. Lol IMO the key to having a succesful Nano is to do frequent water changes. they dont have to be big; 15 or 20% a week is fine, and if possible have a skimmer....
