  6. hey guys. i have recently purchased a 2 ft tank that i want to have lots of plants in. i also have a big piece of driftwood for it. i am going to use a yeast co2 thingy. i wanted to put powder blue dwarf gouramis in it but i cant make up my mind. i then thought that i could make it really 'amazony' and put in a small discus and lots of harlequin rasboras but then decided to go with the gouramis and now i am just confused :-? :-? i would like to get some apisto's or some sort of other cichlid as i havent really had cichlids before but i duno. i have 3 bristlenoses that i am going to stick in it but what else???!!!! Any ideas???
  7. sharn i hav PMed u... Got anymore pics of your tank freshwest?? is it up and running or what???
  8. ok frm re reading what starlyte had written about the kinds earlier i think it may be a CAE then. ok we have decided mine is a CAE:D . he is very peaceful in the community tank. he just goes around doing his thing all day. the only time i have seen him get stroppy was when i had to put my big bristlenose male in the tank with him and the BN went into "his" (CAE) fake log and the CAE was just chasing him out by sucking on his side but he got over it and didnt really mind him after that. :-?
  9. oh ok so its so that water changes can be done easier and more often to keep water conditions perfect for them to grow or breed. got it Thanks guys
  10. i have looked at my algae eater and i think hes a false SAE. A couple pis of him that are shocking :-? :-? his black stripe finishes at the base of his tail sorta but then he has black spots on his tail sort of forming a line but i think hes a false SAE. its hard to see the pics but wotya think. his colouring is exactly the same as the first pic i posted on the other page i think :bounce:
  11. hey i have just been looking at a post which discusguru started about showing your discus pics http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/photo- ... t8161.html any way, i notice that on pretty much all the photos except a couple planted ones the discus tanks have no substrate or plants or anything. i have also seen other discus pics with boring tanks. My question is why do you keep them in bare tanks with no substrate? is it because they eat the stones and it can hurt them like axolotyls or what. just thought i would ask  :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  12. yea sharn i know what you mean about that oscar. everytime i go into AA i put my face close to the glass and he swims at me and rams the glass. he has a big as lump on his lip from doing it to. i would never pay 50 buks for an oscar that size. i would rather buy 1 of the 1 inch bubbas tthey have in there for 20 buks. the fish lady at animal a duznt know alot but the guy(think hisname is dan) knows alot about fish. hes hu i always talk 2
  13. for all those ppl who cant see it just paste the address into your web browser and press go. its not showing up on here for sum reason!>!>!?
  14. ok i have just searched for both different kinds and got two good pics The first pic is meant to be a SAE and the second a CAE mine looks exactly like the first pic and i mean exactly but the second pic looks sorta the same i think :-? :-? :-?
  15. nah i have a siamese algae eater i was told. i just did a google search of the two (CAE and SAE) and they looked exactly the same??? i have 1 in my community tank with little bristlenoses and neons and black widows and angels and danios and stuff and hes absolutely fine with them.just does his own little thing cleanin the tank so......
  16. Maybe a Siamese algae eater. pretty cool fish or you could get a golden algae eater. same thing really just golden
  17. hey sharn i havnt actually fully read each persons reply so sum1 might have sed this but... You should breed those apistogramma (sp?) things like the one you sold o mystic on trademe. i reckon you could get a bit from them because i have never seen one being sold in any of the fish stores i use. they are really cool little fish me thinks!!!!!! :bounce: :bounce:
  18. hey blue and kim that is a good point you have there about the lfs having to feed it etc. sharns oscar has been there a while so they will slowly be losing on it i guess....  8) :bounce:
  19. hey just to let you know a few things. i went over to antwans house today and he very kindly gave me three little bubba bristlenoses about 1 and a half cm's long.thanks for that anthony. he also told me about some sand that he uses and told me where to get it so i went and bought a few bags of sand and a few bags of fertiliser sand stuff. i have put in the fertiliser and the sand and filled the tank up. got the filter and heater going also. thanks alot guys
  20. hey sharn.i reckon you should do something that will look after its young well because its alot easier lol.something like bristlenoses would be cool i reckon.i dont really know much about cichlids so i dont know what to suggest. that oscar that you gave to animal antics they have for sale for 50 buks!!!!!they scored it for free and are gunna gain 50 buks off it. how much percentage increase is that antwan lol   :bounce: anyway.whatever you breed will be fun and a good experience!!! **EVILKNIEVAL**
  21. that is one nice tank you have got there. hope all goes well :bounce:
  22. ok my bad i dont know alot about them but that sounded awfully high but i suppose that is room temp so they would get used to it
  23. Caryl. an rcd would be a better idea.thanks mbuna.PMed alan. will make sure i fasten it!!! dee_jay_01.i am lookin to use some sort of framing inside it and just some 20mm thick board around the outside P.s.plugboard can just go inside the middle cupboard but not rite at the back.in the middle so the water cant get to it easily...good idea????
  24. 22-26 deg C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!you could keep tropicals in that. maybe your fish are a bit hot me thinks.try cooling it sumhow
