    Speed's Tank

Weather has been really crap recently!! I can't take water from taka beach, hence i gotta use ASW to do a water change... By the way, i saw a nice Koran angel at HFF. Was thinking of whether i should get it or not cos it's a 50/50 chance that it might nib on soft corals. I know that Wasp has one in his tank and it doesn't nib on the corals. Any suggestion?

    Speed's Tank

Lol.. I got it from Wasp. I think that's where you got yours from too. They don't really get along very well. The fire shrimp has its own territory and it hides all the time. Only comes out during feeding time. Boxer shrimp is cool... I should have got a boxer shrimp instead of these 2. lol Yea it's a purple firefish Yea definitely... You see i started this hobby before i found out about this forum or else i would set up 1 with a sump and my budget was meant to be around the 1k mark!! BOY was i wrong!! Go on... I know you wanted to...

    Speed's Tank

Ahh.... another nano tank, great tank and great pictures too!! for a 75L tank i think without a sump is good. Just do more water changes?!? Yea i should have a sump to hide the big pump and the heater and also it surface skims too without needing to purchase a surface skimmer.

    Speed's Tank

Ah... I've resized these images so they are under 100k. Thanks for the tip! These pics should look better now. For all those who wanna know what camera i used. It's Canon EOS350D with 18-55mm lens. Same as Reef's camera. The camera is new and i only started to play around with it on Monday, it's hard to get a clean sharp photos as i can't increase the shutter speed more than 120 due to the lighting of the tank. Can't afford a macro lens now, well i can but not willing to spend $900+ on one at the moment yet. This tank setup already costed me heaps!

    Speed's Tank

    Speed's Tank

Ahhh i think it's just the forum how it automatically resize ur pics to 640 X 426 pixels. It looks better at 800 X 600 res.

    Speed's Tank

I've been in this forum since the start of this year and has/had learnt a lot from reading the posts here. Thanks for all the ppl who has helped me out and pointing me to the right directions. This is my 1st attempt in keeping marine/reef tank. I had previously kept and bred discus back in my country, almost started a discus tank here. The tank's dimension is 800 X 350 X 450 (120L). So yea i will still regard this as a nano/small tank. It's running on 1X150W MH with 2X24W PC, Aquamedic Biostar Flotar HOB skimmer with a 2000LPH aquamedic pump (huge ass), HOB filer with surface skimmer attached and running rowaphos in there. Tank has been set up for 3 months now, diatoms blommed twice and had some cyanos but all has disappeared now. I've just re-aquascaped my tank 2 days ago, so some of the corals look a bit yucky... Anyway enjoy the pics!

    Reefs Reef Tank

Hey reef, i am wanting to get a 350D myself. Did you get one that comes with the 18 - 55mm lense? Where did you get ur camera from? The cheapest i found is at parallel imported.

    2' tank

I must agree with that... "Everything boils down to balance"

    2' tank

2 foot tank is not a nano tank? I think it is. anything up to 20gallons to me is considered nano, and again these are from nano-reef.com. The NanoCubes they purchased comes in 12g, 20g and i think 30g if i'm not mistaken and lots of ppl in that forum has a 20g (approx. 80L). Tanks under 10L is considered pico. And yes... i have been following a thread on that website since day 1 set up till today on a 20g tank without SKIMMER and 4 fish in that tank with corals and it is a very successful tank.

    2' tank

I heard JEBO one is pretty crap... how much are they? I think their performance is close to those Queen Cyclone ones or whatever that are selling at HFF.

    2' tank

for a 2" tank? I don't think it's necessary, if you go to nano-reef.com, a lot of ppl in that forum doesn't use skimmer at all but is consistent with water changes. What i'm trying to say is, you don't need to spend over 500 bucks for a skimmer for such a small tank... Just get a reasonable skimmer will do you good.

    My MCE600

My new Aquamedic Biostar Flotar skimmer returned heaps of bubbles into the tank when i set it up initially but after a week, it releases no bubbles at all into my tank and it also took me a week before it started producing any skimmate in the collection cup. You just need to wait for the skimmer to "break in" <-- tat's wat they call it.
  17. Very nice tank... I like the aquascaping and the wide open swimming spaces for the fish. I see your bed is beside your tank. Isn't it noisy when it's bedtime?
  18. If you want some, you can get it cheap at http://www.deepblueaquarium.co.nz/. Still cheaper than LFS.
  19. lol, sorry to tell you this. My mate was in Hong Kong and i asked him get them for me. Also got a $60 refractometer.
  20. I got Seachem Reef advantage calcium and Reef builder. I'm going to start using it as of today. Got the 500gram Reef advantage for $20 and 300gram Reef builder for $10.
  21. I did a test on my tap water twice on different day and on different tap using SALIFERT PO4 test kit and it turned out there are no phosphate. I filtered my water with those tap water filter with a carbon filter cartridge and after testing it. It contains some traces of phosphate. I suspect the carbon releases PO4 in that filter cartridge.

    light

Yea they are. But for bigger tanks, you need more WATTAGE.

    light

I bought a unit myself for my 120 litre tank. If you want to see how it goes. I will post up a pic. I modified the light so that it can have 2 seperate plugs (1 for the MH and 1 for the 2 PC bulbs) for my timer.
  24. u mean calcium level? Did you test for ammonia?

    28.5

I have a computer fan blowing across my tank and the temperature is kept steady at around 25.5. without the fan, my temp will rise up to 28.9 or so. It's amazing how the fan can bring down the temperature of your tank to almost 3 degrees. I switch off my fan at night to prevent more evaporation.
