    DIY Re-Sealing

Oh yeah! i ripped out the old stuff and it actually looks a whole lot better than whoever made the damn tank!!!
  3. Ok i've been taking apart my tank and cleaning it ready for the big kaitaia to wellington trip and i noticed just how bad the seals were on the edges of my tank. (for the first time) So i decided to reseal a few ot the edges (cause i had some sealant lying around i bought at the warehouse for $4.50!!! (sellys, aquarium safe)). And i just have to say to anyone thinking about doing this that it is...amazingly easy I have not filled it with water yet so i guess the proof is in the pudding but i'll let you all know how it goes. Give it a go!
  4. Wow. Great responses! i've been getting some great ideas from all this, Thanks everyone! How well do fighters get on with other fish? i've heard mixed opinions so far.
  5. Can anyone name it? its about 5 odd cm's I know its not the best photo but he never wants to come out at day!
  6. and bristlenoses will chomp the algae as well as my pleco? (i don't even know what kind of pleco it is.. )
  7. cool, thats what i have in mind at the moment. Any other ideas?...
  8. im starting fresh with my 2foot 90L tank and was after some suggestions as to what fish i shall get. Here is a bit about the setup i'm after: * Its gonna have black gravel. * its got a couply of small black slate towers topped with drift wood. * i want to put a lot of plants in there. * i have a small Pleco * I want 2 feature fish, probably of the same species. * Also a bunch of small schooling fish like neons, that won't grow large. * I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the fish (ie discus) * I'm still a beginner so they must be a little hardy. Cheers, anything will be considered. I want a really cool looking fishtank to next to the poker table  Rory M
  9. i'd love to see a pic of this light going. It looks great but is the light not concentrated on one side?
  10. I might just do that!!!
  11. the boredom of xmas was too much for me
  12. Slate, Driftwood, and some silicone (aquarium safe) Stick em all in a blender... and you have some natural looking furniture! and And no need to 'pre-sink' the driftwood! (though i did soak and boil it)
  13. Yeah i've been looking hard for fittings but up here in small town kaitaia its not that easy, i'll keep on looking but i think ill have more luck when i get back to wellington. Cheers for the offer! Rory M
  14. hmmmm i'll get back to you on that one as i've currently had an offer for something very similar, NEW for $60 + P&P
  15. What is the best way to clean after i've cut the old stuff out? (just so i don't weaken the structure)
  16. Nah i've found NOTHING (damn small towns!) I wouldn't be too confident wiring it myself...but hey, i'll try anything once!!!
  17. i have a two foot tank and a four foot light! I'm in desperate need of a two (or less) foot lighting unit. (its gonna have a wooden hood so the unit can be no longer than two foot). I've trawlled the net and trade me but cannot find a deicent priced unit (with two bulbs) ~$60-$90 Any ideas guys and girls? :-?

    filter dalema

So do i just use normal everyday clay? soil? is this ok for my fish? :-?

    filter dalema

Right. At the moment i have: Tank about- 90L (or 20g) Filter I have a corner filter and an Undergravel filter. My problem is i don't like this setup as i have bubbles coming up everywhere and alot of room in the tank is taken up by the corner filter (im also a little annoyed by all the cords/tubes going into the tank). I want to take at least that corner filter out of there. I was thinking this: Jebo 508 Waterfall Style External Bio-Filter If i got this would i be able to lose my undergravel filter as well? My goal is to have a community tank with PLENTY of plants. Any suggestions welcome except ones that will cost me in excess of about $70! Rory M
  20. Well its a small community but here goes. I have a silver dollar and moonlightt guramie both about 6 inches long. they have lived together for sometime now. Lately i have noticed the alge problem is getting a little out of hand so i decided to get a pleco so suck some of it up (and he loves it) but the two fish seem to be bullying it! Well the silver gollar seems to want to nip him while the guramie just wants to touch him and sometimes kiss him. He's alot smaller than them so i'm naturally a little worried about his life. I've also noticed the silver dollar chasing the guramie around (he even has a few nips out of his tail!) What shall i do?

  23. does anyone know the legalities of removing sand from beaches (just curious). I sure there is a law but it seems silly to me cause it soesn't induce erosion and sand is generated faster than we can remove it! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: (sorry i just love throwing thoes bounce guys in there!
  24. Its really not that nice... Relative to other welly beaches it is but in the grand sheme of things its rather ... yuck
