  1. oh thanks for that.that simplifies it for me.people keep going on about gallons so im always saying to myself "so how many litres is that?"but now i know.thanks a bunch
  2. has anyone had problems with swift rasboras and a male betta?ive got swift rasboras, tetras, danios and have heard that rasboras might be a bit nippy and was wondering if anyone has had this problem before?i was planning on getting a male betta this weekend but want to know if im going to have any problems first.
  3. does anyone know how many litres of water there are in a gallon?
  4. oh gud thats a relief  does anyone know whats so great about gold nugget plecos cos i saw one at animates for $149.95.it doesnt grow real big does it?i couldnt see it in the tank it was meant to be in.
  5. hey simfish,i just found out through reading another forum topic that i do have a male and two females but im not happy about having them.i dont really like them and only wanted one type of sex.do you think if i take them back to wetpets then they swap the male for another female or something cos i dont want them breeding or whatever you call it when fish reproduce. :-?
  6. thats cool thanks anyways.i'll ask when i get my tank from wetpets on saturday.what do flying foxes look like.i just looked up khuli loaches and yeah they are quite cool.the banded things that like places to hide and feed off left over food and stuff aye.do you know if their widely available in nz?perhaps in palmerston norths animates or wetpets stores?oh and yeah i was told that my pleco grows to 12 inches so thats about 36-40cms.my last one i had to trade in at wetpets as he got too big for my tank my current little 40*25*25cm tank so a 150L gonna be a big change and good for my current 14 fish to swim around.oh and im going to get three or 4 more of each current species as i have only like 2 or 3 of each when i should have like at least 6
  7. hey simfish, great to hear from you again i originally thought that this tank im getting is a 100L but i actually now think its like 150L as i saw some tanks on trademe that were like 108L but not as big as the one im getting.do you know what the difference between male and female zebra danios is cos i think i might have a male and 2 females cos the supposed male one is a browny blue and silver striped slim thing and the other two have round bellies and are just normal coloured zebra danios plus the supposed male one is always chasing other fish. Can you help?
  8. wow that is a cool website is that your tank, reef (the first one in the top10 category?) whosever it is it looks great
  9. hey guys.sorry its been a while since i posted a reply.im getting my fish tank this saturday and am so excited :bounce: i was looking up about java moss and well is it really hard to look after like the whole having to prune it every week and it growing rapidly in great light?i was also wondering if guppies are good to have amongst tetras and rasboras?oh and if those apple snails/mystery snails are alright to have with a pleco?
  10. oh hang on a minute it has an internal filter.but you know on finding nemo how they have that filter thing well in real life is it possible to buy a filter that cleans the whole tank so you dont have to clean the gravel and do water changes or is that still just a dream?
  11. oh yeah simfish i saw the one you suggested on trademe which ive seen a few of on that site but i dont like the silvery plastic look to it.i prefer the dark black wood/plastic ones with glass tank but black hood and that yeah im pretty fussy i suppose i must get it from my mother lol  .I actually have $1000 for this tank but for around 600 bucks i get the size im comfortable with (100L)but yeah the bigger the better but im scared that i cant manage a tank too much bigger than 150-200L.What do you guys think about external filters for a tank that i want(100L jebo)?
  12. yeah i had been looking on trademe but yeah there either in auckland or christchurch or pickup only which bugs me(bugs me is a nicer version of the f word in my vocabulary) cos you know how your on their and searching through all of them for ages and you finally find the one you want and good price too and then at the bottom it says 'auckland, pick up only or $25 local delivery and by then you get real peed off and just say well f it i'll go for the expensiver one where i no i can get it and well wont cause me any probs in getting it!
  13. sorry about that shae yeah i shud have said species just too used to saying breed all da time (i have a dog named chester (cavalier king charles spaniel) and always telling people what breed he is)forgot its species with fish  are guppies okay to have cos i was pondering on whether or not to get some of those oh and do you think that for a 1ooL jebo fish tank with stand/cupboard for $650 is too much or a good buy cos thats the one at wetpets i was going to buy in a weeks time?
  14. thanks for that shae.so its best that i just stick to getting larger numbers of my current breeds and a few more different types of tetras?are those spotted/leopard danios okay to have?oh and is water sprite that white stringy plant that hangs down from the top of the tank like in billaney's tank?

oh riteo then. .the last plecostomus i had was dark brown with goldy spots but he got to big for my tank so i had to trade him in at wetpets for another.the ones i get grow to 12inches long so which would they be?oh and the ones you see well the bigger versions of my smaller one when hes all grown up are they called something else cos at wetpets i saw a big plecostomus same as mine but bigger but couldnt find the name plecostomus of any sort on the tank just the other fish?can anyone help?

nah it must of been someone else but i did ask in another thread about what my plecostomus' scientific name was.would you know?
  19. okay i will give it a miss then.just to be safer than sorry. are angels/angelfish really aggressive towards other fish like tetras?i saw some tanks with tetras and angels in it and wondered why as i thought angels were a bad idea with tetras. :-?

what do 'betta' fish look like?
  21. i was just wondering also as to what siamese fighting fish are like?i would like one as they are very beautiful but the one i saw at animates was in a tank with tetras but in a seperate compartment.why is that?are they aggressive towards other fish or something/are they okay to have just one?
  22. thanks shae im only better from everyones input :bounce: im really looking forward to setting it up and i promise to post pics of it when its done.better pictures anyways due to the fact that it wont be in a small room any longer but now a larger room so better images. :lol:does anyone know what plecostomus i have?its a mainly creamy bronzey golden colour with dark brown spots all over.i dont know if that helps but i was just curious as to what it might be called?
  23. thanks simfish, luke, wok, jude, caryl, zoezealand and shae for all your help .its greatly appreciated and any more is very welcome.in a week i get my new tank and thanks to all of you guys i dont have any real worries. so from the help you guys gave me i think i will just for starters get a few more of each breed that i currently have so theres less competition amongst them and well am not getting angels now cos i dont want them picking on my other fish.i will get about 4-5 plants and see how that goes.im glad now to have a few ideas of what i am doing.less stressing now. 8)
