  1. Obviously via pm so that his personal details aren't posted across the net.. Cheers
  2. He purchased a fish off me and hasn't sent me his address I had a retard moment and have the fish all ready and packaged but no address.. So if anyone has a phone number or address or any other way than pm to contact me can they please let me know asap. I would hate to have to put this front back in the tank and try again later..
  3. I have a bottle of pond dechlorinator that I have used in when I had discus and dechlorinated the water.. Was recommended by a discus breeder as its what he uses so must be good stuff.. Advantage was it is cheap as chips and goes a long way with the little amount you have to add compared to the normal little bottles..
  4. Salt + quarter-half dose of blue circle and increased temp.. I think the temp alone can get rid of it would try that first but if it doesn't get rid of it it will make it worse..
  5. Thanks fingers crossed it comes to something moved the mum out to the fishroom tonight.. Its slowly filling back up Heater in their tank was set wrong so temp went down to room temp of 22 but pretty sure they're pretty hardy. Bilbo 50 is better luck than anyone else in this thread has had so count yourself lucky Your big pair will breed again and so will all your first babies and you will have them coming out your eyes ears and other places.. Dave+amy - depends on water conditions, individual fish conditioning etc.. But id say 2-3weekly if they eat the eggs obviously take a bit longer if she raises them and you leave her with them..
  6. It depends what the swelling is I wouldn't go and stick a needle anywhere near it unless you knew what it is.. My pick would be some sort of blockage which is why I would have gone down the epsoms salt route first..
  7. lol what a debate End of the day your japper is designed for running on the higher octane fuel.. It will run better and you will get further for the extra few $$ it takes you for the tank of gas. And it will be better for the car especially if you give it a good thrashing every now and then.
  8. Nice car Jappers are mapped to run on 100 or 104 octane (from memory but its higher than what we can get).. Unless your car has been remapped for a lower octane fuel get the highest you can, this is more important for higher performance turbo cars.. When I had my GTIR, WRX, GTX etc I always ran them on the BP ultimate but I think that other servo's have introduced 98 octane fuels now I am sick of spending my money on cars and drive a crapper I don't really follow it anymore.. Good luck and enjoy the new car
  9. Yeah it sucks aye.. If I had noticed the second before it carked it I would have stuck it in a bucket with some epsoms salt and try to flush it out.. If yours is still alive imsweet maybe try that? The funny thing is I can keep and breed them in african tanks with no wood no pleco chips.. The second I stick them in a nice community tank with a reasonable ph and feed them properly have wood etc they cark it. lol Stupid fish is all I can say will have to add some more babies soon..
  10. This is bizare.. My wife said to me yesterday she saw a bristlenose floating around dead in my tank bloated sure enough it was dead.. Now today have another one same sympoms big fat belly bubble for bum etc.. Tank is pefectly healthy had a recent water change has wood all other fish are sweet cockatoo's spawned today so don't think it is water quality related however haven't bothered getting out test kits.
  11. Where are you getting your water from? Do you have driftwood or any plants rotting in your tank? There are many things that will cause your ph to lower mainly it is because the water you are using has a low kh and the fish peeing and pooing and general waste causes the waters ph to drop. Before you do anything Appisto's love a lower ph, and killies will cope, how low is low? AS always as long as it isn't extreme its better to have a constant ph than muck around trying to change it and potentially cause more problems..
  12. lol its just taking a few mollies its not going to hurt anyone.. I am sure there are things that you guys do that people disagree with, everyone is entitled to their own opinions and to be able to voice them.. How you deal with any discussion is upto you.. The whole wild caught/native fish thing can cause a bit of a stir, personally I think there is nothing against going and grabbing a few introduced mollies you wont do any damage to the enviroment.. Just make sure you guys dont take or endanger any of those important trout, even though im sure it will be too hot for them there..
  13. The hole would have been much easier to carry
  14. Sweet so your pairs came from there too? I had assumed when you said they were tripple reds that you got them from somewhere else as those ones are tripple reds cross F1.. My pair laid this morning here are some pics.. Male Male on guard Female and eggs

    Eheim parts

Maybe you should find the part you need here and contact brooklands direct and tell them the trouble you have having getting parts.. http://www.brooklands.co.nz/eheim/parts/index_0.htm They may or may not supply you with the parts direct but can probably tell you one of their retailers they can send it to.. Failing that goto another petshop?
  16. Take some photos of the white spots if you can.. Or else google "white spot" and see if you can find some photos to match up and identify what your fish have.. Generally if its white spot it will be all over the fish, some more so than others but this could just be the start of an infection. If it is only mild salt can clear it up bump up your temp (although yours is probably high enough as your keeping discus) and add some rock salt from the supermarket I usually chuck in a couple of big handfuls to my 540L tank on day one if no improvement I keep adding the same again daily, it has yet to kill anything even when I kept clown loaches with the africans (they were the main reason I had to keep treating for white spot). Good luck but do try and identify the spots before doing anything they could be something else.
  17. No its not worth having fish that are crosses out there they will be destroyed... There is one person who gets given any randoms in the tank if they want them, but I trust them to not pass them on or attempt to name them and they know what fish in their tank are pure and what are not.. Sometimes I wonder what they would look like and yeah sometimes I wish we could make them not breed and pass them on. lol Muzz that looks like a hard out article I will read it sometime when I have a little more time to concentrate and work it all out..
  18. lol babies will look like d. comp food or thrown on the lawn for dog food if they don't get eaten As firenzenz said they all live in different areas of rocks seperated by large areas of sand which they don't cross as they are mbuna (translates somehow to "rock dwelling"). Apparently the open areas are also "patrolled" by larger predators which also help keep the fish seperate. There are also theories that the males can tell their females apart but when we cram them all into a tiny tank (even the biggest tank is small compared to nature) the most dominant one will breed with all girls, in the wild there would be enough space and right females for everyone.. There are going to be hybrids in nature as habitats change due to climate or other factors causing 2 different species to be united I guess after time these 2 will become another species or strain? Just because it happens in nature doesn't mean that we should encourage it in our tanks we have such a diverse range of fish that are pure and we need to keep them this way so they dont all blend into one crap fish.. There are ways of telling your fish are hybrids, generally shape and colour of any fry will be a good place to start (would need a male and female of the same "unknown" strain to start with), also the fishes shape and colour in itsself. It is very hard with zebras to determine as alot of them look the same, generally if you brought it without a name it wont get one unless it is obvious.
  19. firenzenz Metriaclima and Maylandia are both accepted at the moment.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/m ... landia.php Johannes thanks for the pics I was going to dig some out too.. Are they the ones you guys got off me?
  20. Hey Marto, yeah know what your talking about with the blue/red Maylandia estherae I have yet to see them in nz so far I have the reds where the males are pink and the females are orange have never seen a blue male pop out in the babies would be worried if I did as it would probably mean they're crosses.. I am sure he is an awesome looking fish and I started out with a bunch of randoms 4 years ago for my first africans.. I spent hours on the net posting photos looking through profiles trying to find out what they were, I got nowhere. They were unknown and remained that way great fish to start with and enjoy but they went no further than blue zebras. Its the worst thing about zebras and peacocks they all cross so readily and people always take and sell babies out of mixed tanks. Phoenix giraffe is going strong she (although I was convinced "she" was a he due to the big gold blaze) actually bred the other day and bred with my male kadango so on the look out for a male giraffe (have 10 babies growing out from johannes but dont know if I have the patience for them to mature).
  21. lol I dont know much still learning have been keeping/breeding them for a few years now so have half an idea.. A good place to start is here http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ there is so much info here just sit down and read you will pick up heaps.. Phoenix have you been out to Bulls and seen my tanks? Did I get a giraffe off you?
  22. Ice blues males are light blue with a red/orange top fin.. And females are dark brown with marone type top fin.. This fish is not an ice blue (Metriaclima/ps. greshakei). edit : heres the profile with pics.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/s ... php?id=794
  23. firenzenz - lol I guess you could make up any name you wanted if you were the best in NZ.. Muzz while you could go and look through photos and pictures on the internet to try and id your fish you will probably never find out what it is.. Zebras cross so readily that probably 70-80% of them in the market are crosses, the problem with crosses is that some of the offspring may resemble pure fish even though they are not pure. Without knowing for sure where the fish came from (ie who bred it and what they bred it as or knowing what it was imported as) it is very hard to id. Best to stick to "blue zebra" which basically means its a zebra of some sort thats blue.. If you want pure fish you have to buy them straight from the importers with a name or from a breeder who knows what they're doing.
  24. Definately not an ice blue... He is probably what you would call a "blue zebra" of unknown origin probably a mix of all sorts of random zebras through various generations..
  25. Very dangerous words there "I know they are all good stock or I would not have purchased them.." http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/firebi ... 34665.html There is no possible way you know these are good stock? Also using all the random names you have used doesn't point towards good stock common names cause confusion what is a blue ice? Are the sunshine peacocks baenshi? Or the firebirds which are rubins but you brought them as baenshi and now call them sunshines? I know you have brought some good stock from Alex/johannes? But you are also buying willy nilly from anyone who is selling cheap on trademe, people who want good fish will have to be very careful buying from you as some stock will be good some maybe not.. Johannes nothing badly will reflect badly on you, you have done your best, brought and sold descent fish it is all on the new owners now Also very hard to tell what a peacock is or how well coloured a line is or how pure it is from looking you have to grow out a few generations and have them breed true first or know the breeders..
