i just use a piece of poly, cut to size, then make holes for the water flow

how do you work it out? are the watts of the item count how many watts they use an hour? so a 300watt heater uses 300watts per hour? then a kilowatt is a 100watts? i'm paying 22c KWh and this is what i worked out my tanks are running 3 X 300watt heaters on 24 hours 232watt light on 10 hours a day 48watt light on 14 hours a day 40watt light on 14 hours a day 20watt Eheim 2028 filter on 24 hours 48watt Fluval Fx5 filter on 24 hours 15watt Fluval 304 filter on 24 hours

my one is doing ok, he is abit weird with food, seems like he only eats at night time, every other time when i feed him he doesnt eat but will eat at night?

what type of Aro is that? how big is your tank?

will keep posting pic as he grows, should have a new tank soonish for him the discus in that tank are from discus haven, there are scribble snake skin, red turq and roseXdiamond, just growing them out for now i have a breeding pair of blue turqs and another breeding pair blue turq with a orange/brown one (dunno the name) but they both havent succeed but they are getting closer everytime they spawn

planted tank is cool, you can trim the plants back or be lazy like me and let it over run your tank for a "natural/lazy" look here is a pic of my 5ft....i trimmed it back last weekend, still very messy as i was too over the moon with my new aro oh i forgot to say discus are cool! hehe

its really finding the space for a tank that size, i think i have to rearrange my tanks around then see what is the biggest size i can get

thanks for the sites Mystic, i've got abit of reading to catch up on in the next couple of days i've always love an aro but never got one, i've been a discus man for awhile now but went to a LFS today and saw him in the tank, my eyes lit up and my gf knew it was something i really wanted. Then i remembered i leaved my cellphone in the car so i went out to get it and by the time i came back in she had already paid for it and told me to watch it get bagged up (early bday present she said) i got it home and only tank i can put him in is my 3ft grow out tank for my discus. All my other tanks just didnt suit him but i'm looking for a 6ft tank to house him later...he is about 20cm at the moment such a cool fish and it swims around everywhere not just staying at the top

get the biggest one you can afford.....saves you buying a bigger filter later if you want to upgrade your tank size

Critter Kingdom blenheim rd has some good size ones about $19 each...was in there last weekend Organism is a great place but havent been there for awhile, not sure they have any
