I will try my best to include pictures and updates when I can or make it like a journal. I will also post questions and comments here when I need to. Hope you guys will enjoy reading this as much as me setting it up! At the moment, tank is still sitting where it is. Deciding on filtration :-?

Hey Caryl, I was reading the forums and noticed that you have a pond Was wondering if a smaller pond filtration system could be used for the 6ft tank instead of a sump? Would this be a good idea? Not really part of my plan but just curious. Saw some on special in Redwood Ag today. Thanks :lol:

Yes your right Caryl its my pair of duboisi's but they are juvenile now (still having them spots or stripes) one is slowly changing tho, they lose thier spots when they grow past juvenile stage Will let you guys know how im getting along and will post a new thread later on Maybe in the cichlid section of if any mod's permit, the freshwater tank section (or maybe once it is finished) :bounce:

Me too I goto Both.. but mostly organisms as its nearer.. Redwood Ag is a bit too drive for me but still go there

Hey Alan I thought it wasnt a bad trade altho the details were not right. The guy was friendly, and he let it go to me with a price at about 1/3 of what I won the auction for, I thought it was a steal.

Its not that big in terms of volume but its roughly about 500L. Getting a sump made for it and this will go into the cabinet under the tank. Here's some more pics: Lid/hood (upside down): Stand: Some of my critters The Malawis that are going into the new tank are what I have in my 3ft now: 1 x Melanochromis Johanni (Male) 2 x Yellow Lab (a.k.a Electric Yellows) 4 x Kenyi's 1 x Blue Zebra? (I think..) 1 x Bumble Bee 1 x Yellow Stripe 1 x Melanochromis Interruptus (I think.. but definately a melanochromis.. not johanii) 1 x Rainbow 2 x Tropheus Duboisi (Pair) 2 x Protomelas Taeniolatus (Pair) Will get more when the new tank is set up properly. My get 2 female Johanii's other than the fishes, lots of rock and sand or white marble chips to go in. Tank should be up and running by next week, once sump is set up and running and cycled Again, I do apologise for getting you guys hyped up on a 3 mtr tank that turned out to be shorter.. :oops:

Hey guys, Im a bit excited but dissapointed as well. Got the tank thru trademe.. advertised for 3m here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=69223285 but when I went to pick it up this morning.. it was actually 1.95 mtr!!... Im 1mtr short... Sorry to dissapoint you guys but i got it anyways but way way less that i would have paid for. :oops: But am happy with it at the mo.. has curved edges stand and lid which has 6 slots for tubes roughly 29" i think... My malawi's going in there Stands are sitting in my garage at the mo for cleaning and touch ups..

sorry to hijack but i thought this mite be related. lets say you just got a new aquarium, tank B.. filter/sump all set going. And you already have another tank A going. Now, since the fishes from tank A are are going to be in tank B, can I use the water from the water changes I make on tank A to help cycle tank B by pouring it into tank B? Would this be a good idea? I usually do the normal "fishless" cycle on a new tank. Hope this make sense :roll:

hello fishboi and timtam22. hahah my mom calls me boi.. so yeah.. I got a cichlid tank now (3ft) with 9 malawi's and 4 still in my LFS. Another smaller tank full of guppies. Bought 6 on trademe about 2 months ago now i ended up with 20+ LOL, Also have another 3ft but thinner tank at my Gf's place. Thats a tropical.. mixed varieties. Getting a 3m tank tomorrow tho thru trademe.. been wanting a tank like this for a while.. Wish me luck setting it up. Gonna have a sump built for it. and once the tank is cycled then ill collect the 4 fishes i have at de LFS.. haha he must be wondring why.. those are my plans for now.. i might make the old 3ft into a marine.. but thats saved till next time thanks guys :bounce:
