  1. The foreground plant looks like plants sold by waterplantz on trademe. I think it is a microsword. I bought some from trade me which was supposed to be tenellus.
  2. I have never breed discus but my thoughts would be that microworm tends to sink to the botom whereas brine shrimp will rise to the light. Will discus feed off the bottom? Not as good for food value but much cheaper.
  3. Methylene blue will help stop the fungus spreading. can add a bit of malachite and acraflavine as well.
  4. I am not suggesting to replace it, just to rinse it first. I have them in my tanks with no problems.
  5. It works with lots of cichlids, so good luck.

    Sand

River sand is best for plant growth if you leave the silt in with it.
  7. It doesn't look like my tenellus. Could be one of the microswords.
  8. Do they actually inject the fish or have it in a solution of dye?
  9. are we talking fresh water or saltwater locations?
  10. White worms are good for adults but too big for fry. Whiteworm and microworm are not the same.
  11. If the mouses ear is just a cutting it pays to soak it seperately for a few hours because I think the sap can be toxic to fish. It needs a lot of light when grown submersed.

    Sand

I think sand is much better for growing plant but other than that it is what you think looks best. I use greywacke sand which is pretty inert, some of the fancy gravels may change the chemisty of the water
  13. They are better on there own as even if they are not eaten they will not compete well with the others for food.
  14. If you seperate the larger ones the small ones will eventually catch up. Looking good. Hope you have about 70 seperate containers for growing up the males.
  15. I was just curious if approved species could be imported wether genes had been added or not. There are a lot of things going on in some of the Asian countries which I am sure many fish keepers would get a bit squeemish about if the knew. The way antibiotics and steroids are cheap and easily available leads to a lot of misuse.
  16. That is realy only part of the problem. What about the genetically engineered fish. Are they permitted imports if they are an engineered permitted species?
  17. I have golden australe laying eggs but they are only a couple of months old. I have an older male (from shiu) which is driving four females. I tried the chocolates but only got a couple of eggs even though the females are bigger than the golds. Given a bit of time, I hope we will be away again after many years off. They are nice looking fish but realy still a bit young. I can't get too carried away yet as I still haven't built the killi tanks. Hope to try some nothos when I get better set up.
  18. Most fish wont eat flake if there is live food about, so stop that and they wont have a choice. Once on to flake you can suppliment a bit of live food to give them a boost. Feed the flake first.
  19. It is at the infusoria stage that the numbers get drastically reduced usually. If you can get them through that stage they are more of a breeze
  20. Albino is recessive so if you breed bronze to albino the young will all look bronze but be split to albino (unless the bronze is already split.)
  21. Sorry mate, I see it for about 10 seconds every 2 days, can't even figure out where it hides. Not prepared to knock the plant around to catch it. Dam kribs have gone gay on me too. You will just have to breed some good guppies. What sort of cockatoos did you get?
  22. If you put it in the cupboard you will get infusoria without algae. In the sun you will get infusoria with algae. A solution of liquifry will give you the same sort of food to produce either or both of the above.
  23. Green water is infusoria it just shows green because it has microscopic algae in it. Water with nutrient in the sun goes green with algae. It is where the water goes green, not just the glass.
  24. You just put a contaier of green water above the tank and run the water through some air hose with a restricor on it until you get a very very slow drip
  25. The fry are very small and in my experience do better if fed continuoasly day and night. They are too small for microworm to start with and will do best on green water. I used a system of slowly dripping in green water to feed them day and night to get them started. They will get better growth with brineshrimp than microworm. I used to feed both, at different times. You will have to keep the air above the tank moist and warm also. Good luck.
