  1. The tank I have available for a breeding pair of percula clowns is 66x45(high)x30 = 90L It does seem a little thin to me, but I'm gonna see how it goes. I'll have the weirpro running 24/7, but how much live rock do you think I'll need? Can I just run a cannister on the tank instead? Theres gonna be nothing else in the tank appart from the heater and a cheap fake anemone for them to live in.
  2. On the subject of magical aquarium goods .... coincidence that this is being sold by him aswell.......... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=49160415 Actually having a look through this guys old listings .... and what do you know, he must have bought a few of these.... This one he actually replied to questions...... poorly..... There are some good value people on trademe haha, (not literally mind you) Gotta love it.
  3. You should do some late night snooping. Quite a few fish like digging in the sand I think.
  4. Wait till others reply, they might be able to help. I'm not sure if mantis shrimps are not allowed, I'm just assuming - the law's real stupid about what species are allowed in, and I'd geuss they arent.
  5. "Lanthanum carbonate was approved as a medication (Fosrenol®, Shire Pharmaceuticals) to absorb excess phosphate in cases of end-stage renal failure." Apparantly its pretty safe, I imagine it's not cheap
  6. Unfortunately any live rock that comes into NZ gets baked to death- including any mantis shrimps. I think someone here may have found one in their tank but the search thing isnt working so I might be wrong on that. Just a geuss but they sound like a species that might be on the not wanted list. http://www.102tech.com/fish/mantis.wmv (cool mantis video) I think that there are subtropical and temperate species. Someone has found them in "Houhora Harbour", so they're around. Definately go with an acrylic tank if you manage to find one.
  7. Hey wow t5 lighting only too. He doesnt do much of a water change either. I really like it.
  8. T'is a concept I still fail to grasp.
  9. The thing I'm interested in - if some knockoff company rips appart a deltec and copies it exactly, the end product would obviously work exactly the same (assuming the pump/needlewheel is the same too). The question is how much difference is there between the two? You'd be hard pressed to geuss which was which from pics. Has deltec ever sued anyone for copying them?

    2' tank

There's definately something cool about small systems. I think I might try my hand at a pico, when I sort my current one out.

    2' tank

They were selling for $50, I think

I wasnt meaning to use a sandbed instead(of a skimmer), I'm fully clued up on the sand bed thing by now!!!

You must have seen that there are plenty of nanos'/picos out there without skimmers. Taken from an article on nanoreef.com...... Now obviously any tank is gonna be better with a skimmer, but if the main website on nano reefs says they arent 100% essential, chances are it's probably true, or at least partially true. Perhaps the skimmerless nano and pico tanks out there are using a type of vodoo sandbed magic, but who knows? I get to be Layton for a day , and it's exciting!
  14. Thats cool about the cartilage beak thing - I suppose the ones round here are all bone ones? How much was a zebra moray back in England? I think they are supposed to be pretty smart.

    2' tank

Come on....... a skimmer that can handle 720L for a tank that's gonna be ~80L. What if he doesnt upgrade? The money lost on such an excessive skimmer is probably more than a low-end model that would get the job done. Plenty of the nano's/pico's Ive seen dont use skimmers, and water changes + a power head keep them quite happy. With that in mind a skimmer is not even an essential peice of equipment, its just an extra. What is the meaning of life? -It certantly isnt Deltec IMO. Buzzy weirpro 2014 is a cheap hang on back skimmer, along with a jebo, pm petplanet or deepblue and see if there are anymore. With mushrooms you wont need MH, but I dont know what type of tubes come in 2 ft lengths.

    2.5' milli

Its been blocked by rc. I cant even look at it when I goto RC
  17. You could put it on some type of rollers like a pull out-draw. You'd want to make sure it's real strong tho.
  18. Can you guys give me the rough price I'd be looking at for a pair of these types of clowns? Maroons (Premnas biaculeatus) Percula Clownfish (Amphiprion percula) Ocellaris Clownfish (Amphiprion ocellaris) Are there any others that are easy to get? At this point I think maroons would be my choice.

Check out www.deepblueaquarium.co.nz , they have a small hang on back skimmer that's pretty cheap.
  20. Are you able to make a calibration test of some sort?
  21. I thought these were supposed to be in a species tank. I wouldnt trust an animal that eats fish and has teeth like that to not eat the tank inhabitants. Check out this cool moray... I think you can train them (well not to bite you) , that would be a cool party trick. That fish in the picture - is it picking food off the rock or just listing? I wonder why the eel didnt finish him off.
  22. I think he's talking about the napier one, (someone mentioned that they were having problems about a week ago).

    power bill

    It's 0.13 here in Chch.
  24. Yeah I'd love to own that place, but unfortunately a little bit out of reach. I thought they were making heaps of money? Although I do know that they had changed owners before. Not long ago I saw the guys who were running it on tv and they said it was going really well. They were also growing crabs and on-growing crayfish.
  25. Found a really good article suggested by one of the breeder guys - for some reason its from the United Nations. http://www.fao.org/DOCREP/003/W3732E/w3 ... m#Contents Huge amount of info.
