no my tank is very young , only 1 purple tang, 1 yellow tang and 2 percs 8)

sitting in the lounge watching the tank and surprised to see my 1 cleaner shrimp move from one end of the tank to the other really fast :-? when i went to see what he was up to i realised how he could move so fast and smoothly....someone ate his insides! hes been totally gutted. suspects are my new yellow or purple tang, less so the clowns?? anyone got any other shrimp snaffling tales...be keen to hear yours 8)

vodka dosing now day 5.....1.0ml/ 100lts twice daily, hair algae turning whitish. looking back the hair started just as my PO4 went from .25 to 0 ,so it uptaking the PO4 before its testable makes sense. the tank actually smells of vodka which i didnt expect for some reason. no cloudiness so i think ill continue at that dosage.

remove all burrs on the pipes and use liberal 'pressure pipe glue'. primer is not really necessary as long as the surfaces are real clean and dry and normal acetone will achieve this. my piping seemed to go in @30 -50mm until it stopped but make sure you give it a 90 degree twist on the way in to guarantee no leaks.(at this point you need to hold it together for @ 1 min until it sets enough as other wise the joints tend to ''spit out'' the pipe) you will regret not using 'connector unions' in a couple of places as you will surely want to move, alter, clear or check for blockages or clean at some future point.

nice pics, i like the look of the tang , im so tempted by a tang ive seen in a shop recently, hes brown all over but looks to have a real hard case personality.

maybe easier in future to alter your cameras settings to email etc photo size. i can appreciate how much effort to get to this stage, looking real good

filtered out anemone ''cloudiness'' and continuing on with the vodka. today only day 4. anyone got feedback about how long it takes??

i arranged filter wool and carbon so the sump feed discharged thru it at @ 2700 lts/hr. took 24 hrs but the water now clear again. tested all good last night and prob repeat tests tonight .

my tank looked white and cloudy this morning and i thought it due to vodka...nup...anemone went wandering last night and paid the ultimate price just finished picking him out of tank and definitely is gonna be a closed casket skimmer doing its job well and smelling alot, the other livestock seem unaffected on a more positive note the clowns never did get to know him so they arent shedding any tears.

i tried running a full siphon with one standpipe. if i turned my return pump off and then on again i had overflows. this happened because i didnt have spare height in the box to build up pressure to start it to self regulate(i think). i had kept the valve (exterior underneath the tank) restricted to such an extent to keep the box full and eliminate the waterfall noise. i think i will somehow build a ramp? to stop the waterfall and then try again with the box 1/2 full. comments ??

started vodka yesterday , twice a day at 1ml per 100lts per dose. 3 doses later (1 and 1/2 days)and the water has gone white/opaque. seems to have happened quicker than i thought it would. meanwhile the tangs are chowing down on algae and if not eating the brown in preference to the green, they are dislodging alot of brown to go down and get filter wooled out

cracker i have seen your system and cant believe how silent it is. when i visited you mentioned the possible need to have another '' spare '' return pipe for safety. is this necessary as your system could be prone to blockage/snails etc more than a durso? . im keen to try it but cant add another spare standpipe.has cracker got this ''spare''??

north shore HFF had another 1 but prob go very quick

shows how crap the photo is as hes actually a deep purple colour. him and the yellow spent the night together under a shelf which is great as now they seem best of buddies.couldnt ask for a better result

excuse the photo quality.. pics of the 2 latest additions. minor scrapping and now they seem to have called a truce, minor rip to yellows dorsal all i can see the purple looks real blue, not too sure how to adjust that on the cameras settings. :-?

bring back the edit function......or you could treat everyone like children :roll: the tangs were supposed to be 1 x yellow and 1 x blue...until i saw a purple one :oops: ...left the blue out, but Jansens have got some real cute looking blues..so tiny they almost look like a different fish, (quite short fat bodies)
