    Vent photos

Just have these 2 fish i'd like a hand venting them. This first one I think is a female flameback,it's just that the male gave her a hell of a time, just checking before swapping it for something else.2 inches long The second is supposed to be a male Cobalt Blue.Hasn't proved himself yet so just wondering. Close to 3 inches long.

    fry question

The blood worm was only a trial as I was feeding the other tank at the time. I can get my hands on bbs straight away but I think it wouldn't be long before they would be to big for it.Maybe. They are taking crushed flake easy enough, they won't go hungry.

    fry question

These are the same species so hopfully should be ok. It is surprising what they will eat at this age,I dropped a few bloodworms in and they handled them without a worry. (They are Flamebacks, been out of the mouth for 1 week,3 weeks since egg).

    fry question

Is there any disadvantage putting two lots of fry together that will be 1 week in age difference?

    Name of fish

My only concern was people saying they strip at 18 days, was just making sure it wasn't to early. When they were out they new what they were doing, and when I showed myself they knew to head for the mouth and it was quite amazing to watch her inhale them. So,strip her, seperate them and feed her up ready to do it all again. Also have a 2nd female holding, following the first one by 1 week.

Today is day 14 and she has let the fry out of her mouth, and being a good mother taking them back in when I get to near. Should I feed her or take her out of the tank at 14 days?

    Name of fish

That could be the one Frenchy. The one in the shop was a brighter blue but that could be the individual fish. Just had a look at a profile on it and there were some more colourful there so I'm thinking thats the fish for sure. Thanks
  12. Yes it is in a breeding trap now with both dead and live fry caught in the bottom of it.

    Name of fish

No it wasn't an Acei. The fish that was pointed out to me with this name looked like a Johannii Maybe the assistant was wrong.
  14. She is a large fish, couldn't be sure of the age.
  15. What is likely to be the problem if a guppy has still born fry? A larger %age of the fry are coming out dead than alive and it has happened on previous births for her as well.

    Name of fish

Was in the lfs and they had a cichlid labeled Nangrona.I have googled this name and come up with nothing. Can anyone help, maybe the spelling is wrong or something,I need to look into this fish to see if it is compatible for my tank.
  18. I was just wondering whether when building your own tank do you glue to the top of the base, or the side of the base. I built my first tank and glued to the top,but since building it noticed a lot in the shops were glued to the sides. My tank dimensions are 80x40x40(at the time I had no idea about standard tank sizes)and haven't had any leaks so it probably does matter but I would be interested in your reasons or preference on which way to go. This is my tank This is a more recent pic.The fish have changed a bit since this was taken.
  19. Thanks Caryl, I have carbon in the filter at the moment but the piece of timber in question has been discolouring the water in the bucket it was soaking in for a couple of weeks before I put it in the tank,so it will be gone for good.
  20. Had some timber in the tank recently set up in my garage,it was staining the water so decided to remove it.Took it out, put it on the floor, went away and got some water to refill the tank. After about 5 minutes put the timber in a bucket to carry through the house(bucket had 6 inches of water still in it)looked down into the bucket to find a small Platy in the bucket swimming around. I returned it to the tank and it swam away nearly as if nothing had happened. I was going to carry the timber in my hands not the bucket,it was a very lucky little fish. Not sure whether it was sitting in a little pocket of water in the timber somewhere or it is a miracle fish. It lives on anyway. What is the best way to stop the colour coming out of the timber? I think i read somewhere boil it with bi-carb soda in the water??

I moved her to a tank on her own today, she was getting harassed a little but it was more so just to see how she rected to it.She only dropped 1 egg and still seems to have good mouthful. See how she goes. If she spits and doesn't eat the eggs i'll have a go at hatching them out myself.
