    Cobalt Blue ???

Finished treatment on him 2 weeks ago.As instructed by Frenchy. There seems to be no change at the moment, but he still eats and is generally happy. The bad news is he is shooting blanks with the breeding. My female(only one left out of three)has spat her eggs on the last two occasions,so I was a bit suss that he wasn't doing the job. Collected the eggs a few days ago(47 of them)and put them in my tumbler to have them all go bad. This could go deeper than I originally thought. Not to worry I still have approx 50 fry from another male.Had to get rid of him a while back, killed one of the females days before holding.

Thanks Frenchy i'll see if my mate can access that for me and see what happens. Just found this photo while I was going through some and he has been getting worse as you said Frenchy.

    Cobalt Blue ???

This fella is as happy as,just won't fill out. I would be lucky enough to have a mate that is a vetenary oncologist so I think I shall give him a call.He can get any meds at the right price too. But if anyone knows what I need to be asking him for or the worm/parasite that causes it,please let me know.
  4. Here is a photo of my male.Notice the sunken belly. When I bought him he was like this and the lfs assured me that he wasn't like it when he came in. So he's been feeding well but there is no improvement in his appearance. I've now had him for 5 months. Is there something else wrong with him?
  5. No Frenchy I'm always here reading what people have to say, just been quiet with nothing to say. This forum and Cichlid forum that you linked to are the two sites I look at.There's enough reading in these two to keep me going.
  6. Well thanks for that everybody. Frenchy you are a wealth of knowledge, thanks. I'll use the block I have(keeping it away from the Yellas) very sparingly and then try a different frozen food. I tried the cichlid meal once but the one I got was very messy so I will choose not to use that one again.
  7. So it should be ok in moderation then?
  8. I have had one lfs in my area(out of 5) tell me not to feed bloodworm to Electric Yellows. I can't even remember what he said it will do to them. Could someone help me out here with the why not and what it will do to them?
  9. I know every second day for new fry,but how often do you all do them for fry around 3 months old? I do them weekly, should I be doing them more often for maximum growth?

    ph question

I was just looking at that article yesterday. Will try the worm rock I have if that doesn't work may have to try the buffer. I don't have the test for hardness so may have to try the lfs.

    ph question

You wouldn't think so,but there is nothing else in the tank that would effect it really.I've kept the tank pretty simple.

    ph question

The east coast of Australia is known for having high ph,apparently, but yes I tested it twice to be sure. I've had shell grit in the filter for about 2 months now and it still sits at 7.2.(It did come up from 6.4) I have some worm rock now to try off a mate with a salt water tank. I don't want it to be 8.8 but a bit higher would be good for my cichlids. The tank is 150x35x40cm The fish are Cobalt blue x5 approx 4 inches Flameback x3 approx 3 inches Kribensis x 1 approx 2.5 inches I wouldn't think that is a lot of fish in that tank?

    ph question

My tap water is 8.8 but I can't get my tank above 7.2. Why is it so? The tank has a canister filter,no driftwood, round river rocks, standard gravel subtrate and 2 small bits of val.

    Rusty Cichlids

I saw some of these in lfs over the weekend, and thuoght they were a good looking fish. Just wondering if anyone keeps them and their thoughts on them. Found a profile on them said they were peaceful but it looked like the colour washed out of them when they get bigger. The ones I saw were 2 inches probly and a great colour. Photos would be nice too.
  18. Got it, my 5 footer is like that ,will give it a go.
  19. What do you mean by strap, made from what? My original tank is 80x40x40 and it has been fine for over 12 months now, same glass.
  20. Might try for the standard 46cm perhaps.
  21. I've had some glass in my shed for a while and have decided to do something with it. I've tried to make sense of the calculations of glass thickness for a tank but it is all to confusing. So figuring this is the easy way out will ask your opinions. The glass is laminated 6.2mm and I have it cut already for the tank to be 80wx40dx55h cm.(odd size but thats the size of the glass) The only concern is the height.I already have a tank that is 80wx40dx40h made from the same glass. So is it going to be to risky to be that high or shoud I cut it down?

    stocking 55 gal

Finally got a male Cobalt Blue on Sunday after months of trying to get one, went to work Monday everything good, came home Monday arvo can't find him. After searching the tank I see a tail sticking out of the rocks,he was stuck. Been chased in there i'd say. All but dead got him out ,in seperate tank treated him and yes died that night. Looked for months to find it and had it for just over 24 hours. Wasn't meant to be. Might get rid of the blues and go for something different.
