    Crimson tide

Was lucky to find it in one of the lfs here. There was another male and quite a few females,so will probably get 2 females next time I'm in town.(soon hopefully) Also bought a Brichardi on the same day. They're plain in colour but have a nice shape. Greg

    Crimson tide

Thanks Mystic, They are a good looking fish aren't they? I just went looking for a link and I found this link to what appears to be the fish I bought,a Zebra Obliquidens http://www.africancichlids.net/Victoria ... ifasciata/ This is the link to what they are calling a crimsontide http://www.cichlidae.com/gallery/picture.php?p=843

    Crimson tide

I bought a crimson tide yesterday.I had researched them but when I got him home he didn't match the photos exactly. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what type it is, as I have seen a few different types now. Thanks Greg
  4. I used gravel from the beach, cleaned it well and it has been fine in my tank for 5 months. The pH has stayed a little high even when using rain water for water changes,it sits at a very stable 7.8. I just bought some cichlids today as I am changing from a community tank to a cichlid tank rather than try to change the chemistry of the water, just changing the fish. Greg

    Krib Behaviour

The female is still very quiet and not hiding but staying out of the way. She couldn't be sick, surely she would be over it by now,it's been 5 days. I think I will move her to the 5 footer my brother and I have set up between us and give her a spell from the male for a while,as there are only guppies in that tank should be stress free. May even give them a week about, give them 2 weeks apart,a week each in the 5 footer, get them back in the swing of things. If that does not work may have to exchange the female. Greg
  7. My tank has been at 7.8 since it cycled 2 months ago.Have been trying to bring it down with rain water but the subtrate I got was off the beach and the gang here said with the shell in it the Ph will stay high. So now that it is stable I think I will leave it and go for some cichlids. I ask the question because I have a pair of krib and the female is still sick or something(not normal anyway)and was just checking to see if I needed to change anything. Should be OK, will keep an eye on her. Greg
  8. Billaney, what Ph do you run your krib tanks at??

Thanks Billaney, did the picture come up in the post for you? I couldn't get it to show in my message and I've been fooling around for 5 minutes trying to get it to work.

    Krib Behaviour

What are your thoughts on the idea of taking one of the kribs out of the tank for a week and then reintroducing it? Might spark something up perhaps. If so which should I take out male or female? The male is the dominant fish of the tank, would it be wise to move him and give the other fish free run for a week? Or should I just get another female and see if he likes her? Any info greatly appreciated.

    Krib Behaviour

I've had her for nearly 2 weeks. The rest of the tank at the lfs seem to be clear of WS as I checked on the tank over a number of weeks. Will keep a close eye on her all the same.

    Krib Behaviour

No she's not hiding anything .She is moving around the tank a little bit, but not like the first week. She acted like she owned the tank with the male. At the moment the male is not taking much interest in her at all.

    Algae??

Yes caper he does have 2 chinese algae eaters, they do a great job on the brown algae but I'm not sure they are up to the challenge with the little tufty stuff.

    Krib Behaviour

I have not seen her eat in 3 days now,Does anyone have any ideas or should I not be to concerned yet.

    Algae??

Thanks for that polgara,it was a good read.
  19. My young fella has his gold fish tank and everything is fine with it,but it has in the last couple of weeks got an algae that is a very nice green and grows in little tuftsup to 5mm long. Just wondering what sort of algae this is and how to stop it? Everyone in the house has been instucted not to let direct sunlight on the tank, so too much light should not be a problem. Greg

    kribs

A question on krib behaviour, the new female was great to watch for the first week.Really flaunting it,bent back, body shaking, had the male following her, really turning it on for him. After a week she has gone quiet and staying hidden a lot,he is even not taking much notice of her. It's like she's sulking. Not really eating like she was. I'd like to think she is conserving her energy and producing eggs(hoping) The only real symptom if I was looking for her to be sick would be she seems to be breathing harder than the male but not being chased. What are your thoughts? Greg

    kribs

Now that is sorted out,I am considering changing the tank from a community tank to a cichlid tank. Is this a good idea with the pair of krib already? Is it possible to get another pair or two of other cichlids?( rams perhaps) something smallish. I'd clear the tank of everthing except maybe the dwarf gourami,or even get a female dwarf.(being top waterfish) Might be easier to get another tank.Got a 5 footer (cheap)the other day but no room in the house for it. So any information would be appreciated.Pairs of fish would be good. Tank 80x40x40cm Greg

    kribs

That was what I was trying to get a photo of, the transparent fin. The top fin goes from the tip straight down. I can't see it in the photos at all well but I could see it at home. Was just trying to get a better photo now but the battery went flat so I thought I would check in with you guys while it was charging, glad I did. Thanks again guys Greg

    kribs

It was hard to get a good pic but the fins were not like the other males in the shop,or my original, they had definate points. If not I will have to return them and try again. Greg

    kribs

Hopefully the lfs got it right this time. The photo is not showing the colour to well,it is red right down the plecs. Greg

    kribs

The reason I was doubtful is because the bigger male being about 3inches does chase the smaller one. If it was a female I would have thought he would be a bit closer and less aggressive. I have had them now for about 2 weeks and the smaller one is a mid to top water fish, doesn't get much of a go on the bottom. Also came out of a tank of about 10 at the lfs and looked like he does now.poor fella. Today being fathers day the kids might be buying me another krib, and my brother will get lucky again and score a free fish. Thanks guys Greg
