    Krib Question

Nice tank,is it any wonder they are at it all the time,They're in paradise. Nothing else in the tank with them? My male has killed 2 females over a period of 6 months, and now the tables have turned and he is being beatan up.They are in a tank maybe 30 litres at the moment 'till they sort themselves out properly, they're not beating each other up which is good. The male has also started to move some gravel about, never know.

    Krib Question

Thanks Mystic,I separated them for a couple of days and have now put them back together and they seem to be mates again. I have to keep them, they are my wifes favourite fish in the tank, keeps her a little interested in the keeping. Could be a way to get another tank, tell her the Kribs need a tank of their own to breed.I'll try that.

    Krib Question

My Kribs just had their 2nd batch of eggs,1st ones didn't hatch and were eaten,2nd lot hatched and disappeared(eaten again I guess). This time though the female got very aggressive to the male.I have read that if the eggs or fry disappear they blame each other and get aggressive towards each other. My question is do they (she )get over it or is their relationship over?? What to do?
  7. My brother has two about that size,I'm looking after one of them, might have to put them together and see what happens. I reckon that its a male and female. Give it a few months and we'll know.
  8. At what size do yellows start to breed?

    Sick Brichardi

Doesn't appear to be bloated, spending a lot of time on its side now though. The water is fine, only tested it on the weekend and did a small change. Everything else in the tank is fine as well. The only thing different was the water change was done with river water not rain water and I changed the water in the Quarantine tank with river water as well, maybe that is the problem. It was only 15% change in the main tank. May be the thing. Might try it in another tank, somewhere, see if that helps. Thanks

    Sick Brichardi

On checking my fish this morning I noticed my Brichardi was a bit off colour, literally.Instead of the nice light brown it normally is it was very dark and swimming with head up tail down. There was no sign of injury or anything else visual just appeared to be in a fair bit of trouble. It has been Q and treated with Melafix and is still alive now. Any ideas on what the problem may be? I have had the fish for 3 months and has been a great specimen, not a problem 'till now. Greg

    High Temp

Yes I have had the heater off for a number of weeks now, only turning it on for a cold snap. I can move them back into the main tank and keep an eye on them from there.Better than dying. Could try to talk the good wife in to bringing it in from the garage.Might be easier just to put them in the main tank. Thanks again

    High Temp

Thanks guys, the tank has an air pump on it so should be ok then.

    High Temp

I was just wondering what is considered a high temperature for cichlids. I have a smaller quarantine tank with a couple in it and it is at 30 deg c and it MAY still be climbing slowly. I put some ice in today but in was only a small amount and didn't make much difference.
  14. I have good filtration, tank gets turned over 7 times an hour.At the moment I have 8 cichlids with 2 being approx 7cm and the rest are smaller. Doesn't look like a lot in there really, but I am happy enough for now.
  15. When you talk of overstocking a tank to cut down on aggression, what do you call overstocking? How many fish for my tank for example,80x40x40cm?

    Krib Question

G'day Billaney, There are other cichlids in the tank with them and yes they are being a bit aggressive towards them. I have been concidering separating the tank with some sort of gauze or maybe shifting them to a smaller tank that I have available. Which would be the prefered? The other tank is only just under 2 ft.If this is the better option when would be the best time to shift them, before eggs or after? Or is the gauze a better option? Thanks mate

    Krib Question

I now have a female krib the male seems to have taken to,3rd time lucky. They are both dancing about and going through the courtship motions, hold up in the same cave,is all looking good. My question is,she is turning a dark grey behind her nice pink belly and was wandering (or hoping)it was a sign that she might be producing eggs,or in the motions of reproduction?

    Cobalt Blues

Thanks for the replies guys. Put them together and keep an eye on them could be an easy way. Googled Metriaclima callainos and came up with good photos, some fish with stripes too. The fish in the second photo, the stipes are very faint also googled Lombardoi they have a fairly definate stripe. I'll see how I go. Thanks again

    Cobalt Blues

Have bought a cobalt blue and a mate has a fish I think is the same,so I ask you all to help and tell me whether they are a match and if so are they the opposite sex as he has offered his fish to me to have a go at breeding them. My fish is the top one. If the bottom picture is not good enough I have another photo but it is a little blurred Thanks Greg
  21. Thanks Tropheus, good site. The male is a nice looking fish.Might have to invest in one of them.
  22. This is just to get confirmation with what I have bought, sold to me as a Pseudotropheus saulosi(female)the young sales man knows his stuff he just did a bit of head scratching when I asked if it was a saulosi. It has the egg spots and I've read that this means male in some cases, but I know the male saulosi is blue. Thanks

    Brichardi

Thanks for all your input, I now only have 3 cichlids in my tank them being Krib (m), Brichardi(m?) and Zebra Obliquiden(Crimson Tide ,m).I would like something else in there to breed as an interest. Can you give me some ideas on some fish that won't kill everything else in the tank? I've tried with the krib but he didn't take to her.It started well but ended with her cowering in the corners away from everything. Couple of females for the Zebra perhaps? Any ideas welcomed. I know it's a not a good question to ask without adding whether I want mouthbrooders, egg scatterers, cave spawners etc,but I don't realy know myself. Greg

    Brichardi

Leave it as a single fish, unless I have a separate tank for a pair then?

    Brichardi

I have read that these little blokes are very aggressive, was just wondering what your experiences with them have been. The one I bought doesn't seem to be afraid of to much by itself. Would it be even more aggressive with a mate and even worse with fry? Greg
