  1. Thanks Flosty, found that one a few weeks ago.
  2. Thanks guys, been very helpful indeed.
  3. I imagine you can get your fish to come good if you keep the good food and water changes going. I don't suppose the LFS will do the 3 water changes a week, where a breeder will? The LFS has more discus coming in Friday will be checking them to see how they look coming straight from his breeder. They may be a little better. Hope to have a few early nexy week. Will contact the breeder Flosty has mentioned too. I thought that some of the fish in the pics looked a bit stunted, that is why I was asking the questions.
  4. Honest opinions are what I am after. Thanks Is too small a tank all that causes them to stunt or are there other causes as well, food, water quality?
  5. Have changed my tank from an African tank to a discus tank now. Snapped a few shots of the discus at the LFS and was just after an opinion on the quality. Just wondering if you could put a name to them as well,is hard to pick from the web page I have found to get a definate on some of them. This one is my favourite in there atm, wouldn't come out for the camera. Bigger one in centre. Thanks for helping.

    Dark Gravel

The black is a very good look.Is it as glossy in the tank as it looks in the photo?Nice colour in the ram. The brown is very natural looking. Gonna be a tough decision.

    Dark Gravel

I am redecorating a tank and was looking for some photos to make sure I like what I am considering.Thinking going for a planted tank with dark gravel.(Black or brown with no white) I have looked about in the photos here and found some, but I was just wondering if there is anyone with some new photos that might help me out. The tank will be a community tank with discus as the main feature.
  8. I'm in the same boat as luckyfish and want to start and keep discus. I'm in Aus and am planning a trip to NZ at the end of the year and would be away for 2-3 weeks and the main concern was water changes. Am considering putting off getting started 'till I come back. I would hate to lose fish while someone else was feeding them.
  9. So do all of you discus keepers have a special somebody that does a water change if you are away from them for any length of time? Or what do you do?
  10. No real verdict yet, but I had some metro??? worm treatment so he has been on that for 2 days.No improvement yet. Very sad looking now in a 2 foot tank instead of 5 foot.
  11. Yes it is a cichlid, from lake Victoria I think. Haplochromis Flameback The fins aren't clamped, just unlucky with the camera. In case you aren't aware of it,it is the same fish in both pics The poo isn't meant to hang out of the fish and trail behind it so to speak. It's meant to come out a bit and break off.
  12. Fish would be 3 years old maximum. One other male flameback in tank.It hasn't taken over the dominant role though. Did you mean perhaps a male of another species? I'll check the stringy poo tomorrow, making sure it wasn't dirty glass in the photo.
  13. Not being bullied and still feeding as normal. Happy enough in the tank too.
  14. Something is a bit wrong with my male flameback. Over the last few weeks he has been loosing his colour and then went real blotchy. Any idea what the go is? Before After
  15. I've never had an ugf and was just curious as to whether you vacuum the crap out from under the panels with a small hose or what you do? I've seen one when a tank was being dismantled one day and it was a mess.
  16. Most bricks are only baked clay and they will not dissintergrate. They handle years of weather so they will be fine. I too have used them, and they are very easy to use in the fish tank. Regards The Bricklayer
  17. Thanks to you all. I will forward the link on to him and let him go from there.
  18. Thanks for that link,I'd be pretty sure it is the fisrt one pictured and it has a cure for it their as well. Thanks again
  19. A mate has a tank with an algae I haven't come across before. It is a funny green colour not bright and lays on everything like it is a piece of silk material. He was going to send a photo to me but has not as yet so am just hoping you can help on the description. What is it and how do you get rid of it?
  20. This is mine looks pretty much the same.Just a flameback as far as I know. This one would be 5 inches and at breeding time his colours are twice as good. Goes very red and very black.

    How many fry?

Fairly standard amount then. I wasn't sure because the price of them is up there a bit over here in Aus, but it must be because they are popular.

    How many fry?

Just wandering how many fry would be average for an electric yellow. I just stripped my yellow and it was her first lot of fry,and got 9.She is only 6 cm. Stripped a cobalt blue recently for 47 eggs, and my flamebacks usually have between 30 and 40.

    Cobalt Blue ???

He has proved me wrong with the eggs. Just sorted the eggs and found 3 out of 47 that are growing tails. Better than nothing, his strike rate isn't very good though.
  24. GeeTee

    Cobalt Blue ???

    How do you check that?
  25. GeeTee

    Cobalt Blue ???

I've been thinking age for a while too. The lfs assured me that it was bought from him 1 year prior, and was only 1 year old then, but I think I was had.
