Pregnancy and gravita spots

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a guppy that im pretty sure is female. The problem is, i was also told that their gravita (?) spot goes black right before they give birth. The spot is black and has been for about 2 weeks now, but she isnt fat at all and im not aware of her having any babies. Could someone please explain this. Im starting to get a bit worried that i just have an unexciting male. :o

Thanks

welcome to the forum myst :D

how long have you had your gupppy for and has she/he got a v shape fin underneath or a long skinny one that lies flat along side it's body?

The females usually have a rounder tummy with a v shape fin underneath and the males are slimline and their bottom fin lies flat alongside their bodies - it can be really hard to tell which sex they are until they are a bit older - yours may still be a baby :D

Welcome myst. A female guppy can produce a new batch of fry every 3 or 4 weeks. Often, when they are close to giving birth, you can see the black eyes of the fry through her belly but I don't know about any black spot. They are usually very fat just before birth.

Ash? can you please let me know, in very slow method, how you put those photos on there. :o

I was going to do the same, (but hit head on forehead DUH)

I didn't know how.

PM me or on the board, what ever,

although I'm sure I'm not the only one that doesn't know how. :D
