lowndsie
I'm trying to stock my tank this weekend with a couple of firemouths, the only problem is that I'm a good hour and 45 minutes away from any fish shop... Just wondering if the bags that the fish come in will provide them with enough oxygen for that length of time??? or should I be considering other arrangements? Alan
That's not long in a bag. Make sure that you get "goodsized" bags. Double bag them, and do one fish per bag. You should only have 1/3 water and 2/3 air. Chilly bin box so the temperature is kept satable and the fish in the dark. If you are worried about the temeratue, wrap a softdrink bottle that has been filled with HOT water, in newspaper. This stops the direct transference of heat to the fish in their bag and keps the inside of the box warm. I know ya can get heatpaks, but hell, they cost money. When you get home, open the bags and peg onto the side of the tank, floating to equalise the water temp, then add slowly over a period of time, about 1/3 more water to the bags(pH shock eliminater), then remove the fish from the bag to the tank, and throw away the water that it (fish) was in. Keep your tank lights off and let the fish smooch around their new tank on their own. Alan

There are closer pet stores but I prefer to deal with an aquarium shop in sydney because they're more helpful and I can rely on then selling my a quality product!!! Wok
Now if you drive a Holden V8... your fishies will survive without any problems. instead of 1 1/2 hours you will only be 1/2 hour  Now we are back on topic on the other hand if you drive a FORD (Fix Or Repair Daily) you will need to have a heated chilly bin to carry your fish
lowndsie
actually i drive a landcruiser 79series complete with meat hanging racks and over a tonne of accessories!!! Alan
Oh dear!! What did I start???. Let's just say both F & H should hold together as well as your truck to transport the fish comfotable over that distance and for that amount of time. evilknieval69
**Cough** Holden ** cough** Shae, if you got a ford v8 turbo then yea sure, it will smash a v8 holden, BUT, if you got a v8 turbo ford AND a v8 turbo holden, the holden would kick butt off topic, off topic, off topic FORD= Found on rubbish dump, fixed or repaired daily (backwards) diver returns on foot......... Wok
So the moral is that if you have a V* Turbo Holden you will get the fish home much faster  :bounce:
livebearer_breeder
Shae, if you got a ford v8 turbo then yea sure, it will smash a v8 holden, BUT, if you got a v8 turbo ford AND a v8 turbo holden, the holden would kick butt Nah the V8 holden turbo would fall apart at high speeds and i didnt even no there was such a thing for the general production lines from Holden? lowndsie
Well I picked up my two firemouths today and they got home no dramas!!! The trip ended up being a tad over 2 hours because I was forced to stop into the home brew shop for some supplies... They are at the moment sussing out their new home and it took all of 10 seconds for the bigger one to claim the best cave!!! Funny how even at 4cm's they are already showing alot of personality!!
