Heater pad in need of repair

Is this a commercial one or homemade? Is the thermostat internal or external? How is it playing up? Staying off, or getting too hot? My husband Grant has built these in the past but we are in Blenheim. Perhaps he can offer a DIY solution if he knows more about it. Otherwise, I would have thought any electrician ought to be able to fix it.

It was a backyard heater, not made by myself. The main problem is the temperature range, it will stop at 25.2 degrees and start again at 19 degrees. I understand that there will be some temperature difference, but not 6.2 degrees, or maybe I'm wrong here. My other heaters (in the tanks) keep the water at a constant 24 degrees.

That sounds more like a thermostat problem rather than

a heater issue. Try swapping it for one that you know

works. You can sometimes get 'Reliant' thermostats at the LFS.

Finally managed to purchase another Reliant thermostat unit, and replace the faulty one, but my question is; is there anything else on the market in which I can controller the temperature better with my set-up. Let face it the Reliant thermostat is a bit of a hit and miss with the temperature controls.

Please bare in mind that I have a heater pad that sits under my tank and the 'Reliant' thermostats sits in the tank.

Cheers in advance

I use Reliant thermostats on all my heating pads (including tanks

in the fishroom, my snakeneck turtle tank, and Nepenthes

terraria indoors) and find they do a pretty good job at keeping

the temperature where I want it. Every couple of years one

kharks it but only once have I lost fish because of it and that

was about 5 years ago.

Any other temperature control method ('electronic' thermostats

etc) seem a lot more expensive and hard to source and/or

replace.

YMMV, though.

Andrew.
