Ira
Yeah, it's reef safe. I found it to be about as effective as kalk paste. Found sodium hydroxide to be a lot more effective but you have to be FAR MORE careful because it nukes anything and everything it touches. lduncan
Found sodium hydroxide to be a lot more effective but you have to be FAR MORE careful because it nukes anything and everything it touches. I tried it on my green star polyps, and they didn't even flinch. Still can't get rid of them!
lduncan
Thank you... but does anyone have a reef safe soilution you can just and ti the water like you add the calcium and other stuff for corals? Nope. There is no such product. You have to manually exterminate every one with a syringe. Layton
vivekv
ok thanks... Dad works in lab with chemicals should find the sodium there. i have just started up my second tank with soft corals only and 2 fish
lduncan
Ha, you don't want to add sodium metal to your tank, it might scare the fish as it bursts into flame wizzing across the surface of the water. Sodium hydroxide is what I use. Mixed with a little water into a syringe and into the aiptasia. Don't get the mixture on your skin, if you do, wash with PLENTY of cold water. And like Ira said, make sure you're reasonably accurate. You also only need a small amount to kill. I use around 0.1mL per aiptasia. Fay
I just use kalk paste
Ira
I haven't found Kalk to be particularly effective unless you have an aiptasia that's nice enought to sit right on the top of something and let you cover it completely without ducking into a hole. chimera
at the top of this site there is a 'Search' link, type aipstasia in there and you will find this topic has come up many many times
lduncan
I find google's index of the site is excellent, a little more useful than the inbuilt phpBB search function. The google option shows up on the same page when you hit the search button above. Layton
HelifaxNZ
Hi, I know this is an old site, but I'm just running out of Joes Juice so looking for an alternative to kill these buggers! I have Reef Advantage Calcium, if I make that into a paste, will that work? Cheers guys!
rossco
Nah, not to my understanding anyways. Joe's juice, kalk paste, and the like work by high alkalinity nuking the anemone. Calcium will just give it stronger glass...

Duke
joe juice good stuff.Sodium Hydroxide ... scary stuff, killed some coral with this stuff little bubbles servived and contacted my coral when starting the main pump say goodbye coral. >>>>( sodium hydroxide to be a lot more effective but you have to be FAR MORE careful because it nukes anything and everything it touches) Not worth the risk... I have some ... welcome to get it... Joes Juice even if you have to use it three time to kill the pest. And some times you have too. Not a miricle cure. Sodium Hydroxide ... like a small nuke... HelifaxNZ
Don't like the sound of a Nuke Test! Will use Kalk or Joes Juice. Safest. Cheers.
Ira
You must have used WAY too much. You only need a little, the little white blobs you get after using it are just precipitated calcium, I think. Not Sodium hydroxide and are relatively harmless from what I've seen. Certainly didn't hurt any of my corals. And all the sodium should dissolve in a minute or two if you don't use too much.
