craig
my cleanershrimp release a cloud of littlies every month or so. fish and coral's get a good feed, but some do make it to the sump. at first i thought the sump was running low and the tank was fill of itty bubbles, but when the fish started darting around chasing them i soon figured out why. there must be hundreds of them. next time i am gonna net some. anyone have an idea on what they might need to survive. Alan
How would they go on BBS Shell?? Or IS it Craig?? May have to kill them in freshwater first so as they can eat them as a type of good detrius (spp). Be worth while raisng them on wouldn't it?? Pies
Craig - Heaps of info on reefcentral for bringing up shrimp. They have a planktonic stage that lasts over 3 months before you can wean them onto rotifers though, so probably such a hastle it would hardly be worth the energy. Not saleable for approx 18 months. Ira
And iirc they're so delicate when in their planktonic stage that they can be killed by bumping into the walls of the tank? Be good if you did get a good way of breeding them though. Maybe you could grow them the same way you do rotifers?
craig
thanks for the great info guy's,WOW!!! 18mths till their big, can't leave my sump alone that long, last time i put my hand in there and pulled out pink stuff the little buggers crawled all over my hands, freaked me right-out.not that good with creepy-crawlies. there's only one thing to do and that's give it a go,got nothing to loose aye!! and yes alan it is shell, i know i should get my own postie thing, but this way it keeps you guessing aye!!!! thanks again guy's. suphew
The shrimp in your sump will more likely be misid (sp?) shrimp not baby cleaner shrimp. While in the planktonic stage they would be free swimming, not crawling round.
gregb
You can buy powdered algy that comes with brine shrimp eggs. Tetra make it also. In Melbourne they want 120 dollars for a 2" shrimp
