cracker
My tank is the hottest yet this year.......28.1 with large Fans running 24/7. Hows everyone else out there?
Tanksman
I am not a reefer but do you leave the heaters on overnight still? I'm considering turning my Freshtank heaters off as I'm at 28 as well in 600 litres.
wasp
They only go if it's too cold so turning them off when it's too hot makes no difference, unless they are turned up too high. If you need to cool the tank, a small fan pointing at the water surface will do it.
Tanksman
Yes they only go on when its low but how low would it go? Would it still get back to 28 If it didn't start at 25 instead from say 23 -24 with no heater overnight?
cracker
yip, just the ambient temp would take it to 28 at the moment even if your heaters were off. And the jump from 23 to 28 may stress things. Leave the heaters on.

Ira
Mine got up to 28.2 sunday before I switched off the alarm and cranked the fan up all the way. With the windows open it's peaking a little under 28.

Fay
reef: With all your other equipment I can't understand why you haven't got a chiller?
ghostface
i hit 29.4 a couple of days ago, 28.4 yesterday with a full size room fan on the tank. have changed light cycles to try and limit the amount of extra heat going in during the afternoon. reef
I can't understand why you haven't got a chiller? My power is at its max for the line. cant get any more power without causing a major.
cracker
Run a remote gen set in a sound proof box outside. You only need a 650 KVA to run two big fans. SUPERCHEAP have get them on special til today for $169.00. Normally $250.00 (This model wont need a sound proof box, Its quiet as). Ive got one...they are really cool. I used it the other day when we had a 7 hour power cut again.
puttputt
tank never varies by more than 0.5 from 26 degrees, and no chiller.
lduncan
Run a remote gen set in a sound proof box outside. You only need a 650 KVA to run two big fans. That's a pretty big generator. Dunno what sort of fans you trying to power.

wasp
Yesterday ( Monday) I had to go down south for the day, and the forecast was for hot & humid, decided to play safe & turned the halides off for the day. No harm done & I think it was good insurance.

seahorsemad
My chiller is the best piece of saltwater equipment i have. I went for a couple of summers using fans and things but couldnt really go on holidays and things cause i didnt want to leave the tank with someone who didnt understand that they could cook my seahorses if they did not put fans over the top of the water when the temp went up. Now i can go away for a couple of days without fear of my tank being cooked. Only problem is condensation. Has anyone else had to battle this and if so what are they doing to combat it? chimera
I got a big wall mounted fan last night (cheap as from bunnings), mounted it to the wall and plugged her in (the fan before that was a tiny - only 1/4 of the size and didnt do a lot) i've got the fan on the same timer as the halides for now. it will be more a backup once the chiller is hooked up than anything. im a fan of redundancy (excuse the pun ) - nothing worse than having a chiller fail in the middle of the night and having no backup plan. at the least, the temperature monitor will beep letting me know its too high.
