Karen
I would like to make my own discus food, but have been unable to source any beef heart in the Hutt Valley. Can anyone help or offer an alternative? I am prepared to travel a couple of hours if need be.

LYNDYLOO
Doesn't any Butcher shop or Supermarket have it? :-? :-? :-? Lynda
Karen
Butcher shops in Naenae I tried first. No Luck. The supermarket in SV would only get in if they could sell 10kgs.
Tsarmina
all i can suggest then is to do a ring around of the remaining butcher shops. look them up in the yellow pages, then start at A and work your way through the list. one is bound to have it. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Ira
Yeah, Pak&Sav usually has sheep heart. Close enough, just smaller and more fiddly.
antwan
Hi there Karen, not sure if you know this already or not, but, beef heart is also called Ox heart in supermarkets. Sorry if im just stating the obvious but you never know.
Wok
Talk to the Butchers and get them to order one in for you. I got my local butcher to do that for me... paid $6 for one. but that was one big heart. lasting over 3months of food with daily feedings to 2 tanks
Caryl
I thought all supermarkets had them. They do here! They are called ox hearts too.
Wok
I tried looking for it here in Auckland but couldn't find it in the supermarkets. I got mine from my local butcher who ordered it in for me.
ryanjury
Whats the recipe for making the food (ie what other stuff do you add and blend up) or do you just feed the ox heart by itself?

Karen
After several visits to supermarkets in the Hutt Valley finally located a couple of small hearts at Countdown on High St. Made the food up yesterday and tried it on the discus, tropicals and goldfish. Thanks for all the advise. It would appear it is less plentiful in the supermarkets here in Wgtn then elsewhere.
